Undestanding Prusament techsheets
So they announced today the new Prusament ASA which they claim is very tough. But by comparing the mechanical properties in the techsheets for Prusament PLA, PETG and ASA. It looks to me like PLA ist the strongest material (at room temperature).
Is that correct or am I reading the techsheets wrong?
RE: Undestanding Prusament techsheets
Yes and no. PLA will typically have a higher tensile, but is quite rigid. So while it could potentially bear more static load than ASA, it performs quite poorly when it comes to absorbing and dispersing impact energy (such as being dropped, snap fit clips, etc). This is why these material show a dramatic difference in impact strength values.
That being said, something seems off about the ASA Z-Axis tensile. The yield and elongation are both very low, possibly indicating poor layer adhesion?
Also, tech sheets are more of a reference for necessary information, and often not reflective of real world applications. So take it with a grain of salt.
