Mine has dark spots as well, batch WA-15. I noticed them immediately on getting the sheet but did not pay them any attention.

I am also WA-15.

My failing sheet is also WA-15...

I just got my 2 new sheets with some Prusament Orange PETG to print the MMU2 Lack enclosure.  I am nearly half way to complete and all parts adhere perfectly and release with NO worries.  DON'T use Windex on the PC sheets.  It sez so in all of the instructions.  Dawn and 99% IPA only.  As for other materials...  They will have to wait until I finish the new enclosure and MMU upgrade.  😉  Gonna try Flex, Wood PLA, Metal PLA, and then some Nylon with carbon fibre for fun.

Lot's of work and no time to do it.  🙁  Getting to have to work 24x7 to complete everything.

Interesting.  I have used Windex for nearly a year on mine with no issues.

Charles,

It may be a recent change in direction.  But IPA is all they recommend.  I try not to handle the face of the plates.  I alternate and rotate the plates as well.  I have about 1000 hours on my machine but only the last hundred or so on the new plates.  I have 2 PEI in use, (one emergency backup), and 2 PC plates.  Both PC plates came in with no blemishes in perfect condition.  I guess I am either lucky or they have solved most of the problems with the new PC sheets.

I don't think windex does any harm to the PC sheets, it's likely just not necessary (and may be harder to remove given the texture)

That said, they do recommend NOT to wash the PC sheets as they are not waterproof - perhaps they don't recommend windex for the same reason?

I just read their blog post again:

From Blog: https://blog.prusaprinters.org/how-to-print-on-a-powder-coated-sheet/

Both these sheets have their own advantages – the powder-coated sheet will give your printed objects a really nice surface finish, while small parts printed from PLA might stick better to the smooth PEI sheet. Don’t forget that if you print with PETG on the smooth PEI sheet, you should clean it with Windex and not IPA, otherwise the print could stick too much to it. The best case scenario is, of course, if you own both sheets. Then you can simply switch between them depending on your current needs.

RE: Textured sheets in stock!

Charles,

I remembered reading something about not using Windex on the PC sheets.  From the link you provided, here is where this started:

After reading that and before I bought my  PC sheets, I questioned someone via chat and they pointed me to somewhere else where Windex was NOT to be used on the PC sheets.  I am still looking for that link.  I believe it may be related to something with the production issues of getting the PC to stay stuck and Windex degrading it faster.  Hopefully my aging memory isn't mistaken here.

Did you make a typo? Everything in your post agrees with not using windex on the sheets ("Don't -> Print with adhesive or separation layers". Windex is the latter).

RE: Textured sheets in stock!

Sorry vintagePC I wasn't thinking of Windex as a separation layer.  You are correct.

Also, I found what I was looking for in the Prusa YouTube video about maintaining the PC sheets.  He shows a big NOT over a bottle of a "Windex" clone in the video.

In this thread I remembered seeing a few places where people had mentioned Windex and even someone asking about using it because they couldn't get 90% IPA on the link you sent.  No one answered him though.  🙁

I'm still trying to get my head wrapped around some of the terminology.  I never thought of Windex as a separation layer like glue, painter's tape etc.

Sorry, I should been more clear.  I was not trying to argue, I was posting the quote that confirms what you said.

i did

bed is now ordered and payed ...
still a mistery what all happened when i received a mail long time ago, saying I could click and choose a voucher. I chose and clicked but was never rederected to the shop. I thought this was simply to make a list of people still wanting the powder coated sheets.

yet still also find it difficult to unerstand that as the Printer I ordered was the mk3 WITH powder coated bed (and payed for) ... and now yet have to pay again to finally receive that bed.

Things happen.  I am amazed Prusa does as well as it has.

I also ordered in January 2018. While I was disappointed at the delay, Prusa did ship me a smooth PEI sheet and the voucher for the powder-coated sheet. It's not like I didn't receive any sort of compensation. They made the best of a bad situation, and I've been happily printing since April 2018. It's not like the printer was unusable. I did receive my PC sheet in April 2019, so you should have been notified by now. Get in touch with support and you will be able to get one with no shipping and a significantly reduced price.

There is no issue with using Windex on the PC sheets, newer or older.  Apparently, it is not necessary, but will not harm a PC sheet.  I have been doing it since July of last year and like how easy the prints release with windex for PETG.  Up to the current MK3S handbook, it was actually recommended and I think was actually recommended in the new-user video with Josef where he is using a PC sheet in the demonstration.

I just checked and the current handbook for the MK3s is version 3.11 where it does have the change to use only IPA for the PC sheet for PETG.  However, on the drivers page, for the MK3, the handbook is version 3.04 where it does state to use Windex for PETG because otherwise the adhesion may be too great...  This is what it was all the way up until May 2019, so where the confusion on using IPA for PETG comes from on my part.

It is great that the info was updated for the change, but it kind of seems like a large change that was made without further explanation, hence the hesitation on my part and the questions....

RE: Textured sheets in stock!

I have one PC sheet that sticks too much to ABS and PETG.  It is not reserved for PLA.
