Suggestions for X-Axis upgrades/mods?
Hey all,
It's time for some maintenance and while down I thought it would be a good time for some upgrades/mods I've been pondering. One is an upgraded x-axis. I'm not having any real issues with the stock x-axis but I do need to adjust the X-belt with no more adjustment left. While it doesn't help now, for future's sake this JLTX mod is definitely going to be implemented: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2727523 . Both this and https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3066464 have been printed already but after having the split version in hand I'm not completely comfortable with it.
This https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2786603 was initially planned but it seems there are too many issues with it based on the experiences posted in the comments. Really like the tensioning mechanism here though.
I have Drylin bearings but not installed. Anyone have them installed on their X-axis and happy with them?
Thanks for any suggestions or shared experiences on the x-axis!
Footnote:
The R3 extruder/fan mount is already implemented. but several other non x-axis upgrades are planned too:
Re: Suggestions for X-Axis upgrades/mods?
I am also struggling, what upgrades do I want, or are really needed. I figured, Prusa sells its printer with good working parts, their (software) configiration is tuned to their setup, including all printed parts. So...
The questions I am battling with
I will be doing these upgrades soon, trying to keep as close to prusa stock while still improving things

Re: Suggestions for X-Axis upgrades/mods?
Use the 8mm springs for the bed mod.
About mods they are not really needed, they can improve something but not that much that will cause a better print
PS: I have printed many mods to improve my printer but compared to stock they are not needed.
Best mod you can do is Volcano and 0.6mm nozzle (my case)

Thanks tiago.c. 8mm it shall be, and also thanks for all the work on that mod. Looking forward to a much flatter bed.

If I could convince the better half I needed another printer, a volcano it very well may receive. We're not there yet though.
Re: Suggestions for X-Axis upgrades/mods?
Btw i also have modded my printer because i got problems since i have old parts, before R2, so i reprint everything and use better parts.
If you recive R2 and R3 parts there are no need.
Trust me volcano does the difference if you want to print faster, you also can use a 0.4mm with it and benefit
Re: Suggestions for X-Axis upgrades/mods?
I am currently doing maintenance and R3 upgrade on the printer.
I prepared the all the new original PRUSA parts as posted on GitHub, which is basically all X-axis parts, the Z-axis parts and additionally a reinforced Y-motor holder and belt tensioner (non-Prusa)
At the same time I am exchanging the belts for the PU-belts from E3D, which are quite expensive but really a different quality.
Other than that I have my eyes set on the filament sensor upgrade with the little ball bearing that's discussed here:
https://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/others-archive--f66/reinforced-3-bolt-y-axis-motor-mount-t14590.html
Personally I trust the original Prusa parts. I'd rather just print instead of chasing some unknown issues caused by parts designed with good intentions and unintentional side effects...
