Strip Down and Rebuild Guide?
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has a good guide on stripping down and rebuilding the Mk3s.
I don't want to go down to component level on each screw and nut but more a maintenance overview.
I want to look at removing all rods and bearings and checking them along with checking all belt s..etc.
Is there a good guide to do this or just a case of going through the manual on reverse but skipping the specific bits?
Thanks,
Ian

RE: Strip Down and Rebuild Guide?
I wouldn't recommend disassembling your printer for non-specific routine maintenance but if you want to, it's not that hard if you consider how each piece went on, and requires fewer steps than reversing the official assembly procedure. If I remember correctly:
- Z axis: Remove motor mount screws to drop Z motors downward. Remove Z top caps and smooth rods. Wind X axis off Z screws one at a time (have the printer positioned at the edge of a table so the motor can be moved down).
- X axis: Remove X motor (to loosen the belt). Remove left carriage (after disassembling Z axis) to get access to the X rods and/or extruder.
- Y axis: Haven't tried; you could either cut the cable ties or unscrew the mounts.
- Extruder: The MK3 to MK3S/MMU2 upgrade instructions cover disassembling the extruder off of the X rods well, but you can also try sliding it off the end of the rods after an X disassembly if you want to do things with the rods and bearings without disassembling the extruder (which disturbs lots of wires and requires cutting cable ties).
