Re: Slic3r Prusa Edition 1.42.0-alpha4
Now I see it........................
Online printing over serial line aka the "Controller" was dropped for now. We are not sure yet whether we will integrate it into Slic3r again, or whether we will create a separate application for printer and printer queue control, or whether we will drop the serial line printing for good, as there are other applications that serve the same purpose. Please let us know what you think.
Re: Slic3r Prusa Edition 1.42.0-alpha4
the modifiers work neat. I don't have to Boolean anymore 😀 don't know if they worked before..but I am just playing with it now. 1 stl file as odject and the rest are modifiers
I have a Prusa,therefore I research.
Re: Slic3r Prusa Edition 1.42.0-alpha4
Hi folks, I must be missing something but I cannot figure what my mistake is ...
Background:
I am preparing my "Start G-code" in Slic3r 1.42 alpha4 and want to create a small "info segment" at the top of the g-code-file so that I see the most important settings at a glance. Just a simple use of the exising Slic3r variables in a comment line - at least I thought so but man this is driving me nuts ...
Problem:
It is obvious that I must be blind at the moment by turning in circles.
Just a small example:
This is then the resulting G-code:
You will see that almost every variable was processed as expected like "filament_settings_id", "retract_length" or "retract_speed" ... but I cannot get "first_layer_speed" or "infill_overlap" exchanged correctly (should read 20mm/s or 30% and not 0) --> I checked it also with the end of the file where these variables were nicely exchanged.
What the hell am I missing?
Thanks for your ideas!
Cheers,
Mark

Something that seems to be needed for MMU2 printing is Individual Filament settings. I have 5 filaments in my MMU2, one slightly over extruding, another slightly under extruding, but no way to change filament diameter or extrusion multiplier for individual filament positions? Is this an oversight, or something in work?

I'm surprised Prusa advertises the alphas as much as they do. I'd expect them to prefer to limit them to those who actually do testing and report bugs (i.e. know how git works). I assume the developers kick a release out the door but that it takes some time for the announcements to get composed.

For a while in the 70s and 80s I had a part time job in QA and did Beta testing for many companies as a compensated part-time job... I was also writing 6502 assembler code for the 8k apple][ I remained as a tester for apple through the 80s and I was a beta tester for the first macintosh in late 1983using a modified Lisa... so I know how to format proper bug reports and include the crash logs when needed... but I know what you mean... but these Alpha releases are not standard industry alpha software. it is closer to late beta such as Apple provides on request
and of course theses alphas are always found at

Re: Slic3r Prusa Edition 1.42.0-alpha4
i like that they give us the option to do early betas (alphas). take the good and the bad. but I'm loving some of the new stuff. I do think they are at the point where they can add a "draw" function. I bet they can.

Oh man... I was poring over the Apple DOS source code they provided in the manuals back then. Reading over the floppy drive stuff was fun. I remember burning character generator EEPROMs to get lowercase characters on the screen. I still have some of the Beagle Bros. posters somewhere.

Re: Slic3r Prusa Edition 1.42.0-alpha4
you had floppy drives! we wished for them in 78, we played with audio tapes for storage.. I received a game program in pascal on tape that I beta tested... Proving grounds of the Mad overlord the first of the Wizardy titles from SirTech.. in late 79 I wrote a centronics interface for a parallel interface card for printing to printers that cost more than the Apple][+ we had 16k by then so my printer driver had all of 5k of space for its assembly code and in 82 I was part of a group that did an assembler driver for a 5 meg hard drive that had 8 inch platers and cost over $8,000 that was for the Apple][e... and an accounting software program I sold and maintained at the time.... I bet a lot of the older farts around here were workin in tech back then
Memories.... memories... these are the memories of our lives.....
