Re: Simplify3D settings for MK3

I am wondering if I should be using Josef's download on the first page, or the default settings in S3D..

I found with both, I am getting a little bit of stringing

Re: Simplify3D settings for MK3

i have tuned the settings in slic3r,

Like retraction lenght + speed / and filament temp (PLA)

i got now no more ozing so its perfect for me now 🙂

@cameron.c3

Start with the downloaded settings from S3D. For PETG (what I print with most) I couldn't even get the Prusa profile to print at all - it was a mess.

While I appreciate the effort to create SOMETHING that could be used for MK3 in S3D, in reality the profile from S3D is vastly superior. It isn't perfect, but it's a great place to start.

Re: Simplify3D settings for MK3

I also had better luck with the (current) S3D defaults than the Prusa settings of the original post. One thing that would help is if Prusa hosted the settings on github along with the firmware... That way they could be maintained over time and we could comment and contribute.

Re: Simplify3D settings for MK3

Appreciate the feedback guys - just did a few test prints using the articulated butterfly from Thingiverse, and the default settings turned out a little nicer.

I am going to move to something a little more complex shortly and will provide updates

Hello that such someone has another configuration or set to try because the Josef Prusa, is not working well and I do not see that has updated.
thank you very much.

Hello,
I am a new user of a MK3.
I have not knowledge on 3D printing and 3D Printers and Slicers.
I want to use Simplify3D for slicing.
Which is the best S3D Settings for MK3?

Hello,

For your first try I would start wich Slic3r and PLA, which are well tuned on the software.
Personally I'm switching often between Slic3r and Simplify3D, pros and cons... but mainly because I'm switching on PETG with some issues.

Happy printing!

Simon

Re: Simplify3D settings for MK3

Thank you simone for your comments.
I make a year now 3D designs but i have not my own printer. Now i have buy a MK3.
I do not you PLA i use PETG and Poly-carbonate materials.
Also my designs are complex and i want to use S3D because have a very good construction implementation.

I have read the posts in this thread and the various calibration files. Because i do not have good technical knowledge on slicers i can not understood the technical information in this thread.
My question is which of the Calibration files presented in this thread have the best performance especially for ABS, PETG, Polycarbonate materials ?

Regards,

Regards,

Well, Simplify3d on this aspect is true it works better on how it generates the gcode (from my poor point of view).
About the configuration files, I've not tested them all. The best is to try it by yourself, because the ambient plays a role as well, the results could be a litte different. Or maybe someone else could suggest you the file to test.
The only thing I've noticed, it's a material that it's easy to create blob/stringings. Look here on my tests and the suggestions I've got:

https://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/others-archive--f66/3d-printer-test-pla-and-petg-t14249.html

I was not able to make last tests btw.

Remember at least to start with a SLOW speed for the first layer.

Bye, Simon

Re: Simplify3D settings for MK3

I just updated my firmware to 3.1.3 and downloaded Prusa's fff file for simplify. I ran a print last night and it ran fine. It was approx. 3 hrs and I had no issues at all. Print quality was good I think for as fast as it ran. I ran with a .15 layer height.

I suspect the file from Prusa came out before the file from S3D came out.

Re: Simplify3D settings for MK3

Layer height .20 and first layer width 130%

First layer looks incredible

That doe not even look 3D printed. Very Nice

What profile did you use?

Re: Simplify3D settings for MK3

Using the profiles posted here my nozzle drags across my prints, generally early on, every time. Slic3r settings print perfectly. Sigh. Gonna try to copy over settings to see how it works.

Re: Simplify3D settings for MK3

Everyone should try these Simplify3D and Slic3R profiles by Chris Warkocki:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/Prusai3users/853639768153839/

Although I had good results with the default Simplify3D settings I was struggling to print an iris box design, constantly getting fused parts until I tried the settings above. I'm not 100% certain which settings made the difference as I had tried many of the variables independently without much change. But more generally I am now getting results that look better *and* are much faster on the "normal" setting with Chris's profile as compared to the S3D defaults.

I'd be interested in any comments on his settings - in particular I notice some curious things such as:

1) The S3D time estimate for "fast" is always slower than "normal" for me. (I have not done a test to confirm that it is accurate yet).
2) The time estimates going from "normal" to "optimal" go up dramatically. Wondering what the biggest factor there is to play with.

Can somebody share Mr. Warkocki's S3D profile information here for those of us who, for whatever reason, don't have Facebook accounts, please?

See attached. I also included his PLA and PETG profiles.

Mr. Warcocki also mentions you need to validate your e-steps and extrusion multiplier before using this. Anyone have a pointer to instructions on how to do that?

There's a few guides, a good one is here: https://mattshub.com/2017/04/19/extruder-calibration
Make sure to use F30 instead of F100 though in the extrusion step.

There's also a video guide here:

Using these I nailed the extrusion, which had a pretty big impact on quality. My extruder was perfect out of the box, but the multiplier needed tweaking. However I had a constant issue with blobs only from Simplify3D. Chris' settings has fixed that, and early tests show a perfect print now from my mk3.

I suspect the post-processing script is having a big impact on the quality. Chris Warcocki must really know his stuff. It looks like it's just tweaking the acceleration settings. Whatever the magic sauce is, it's working well for me.

Edit: Saw some more changes in start up script related to extruding. My blob issue was just masked 🙁 But the settings do give me some more to work with and track down the issue.
