Re: Simplify3D settings for MK3

Mr. Warcocki also mentions you need to validate your e-steps and extrusion multiplier before using this. Anyone have a pointer to instructions on how to do that?

There's a few guides, a good one is here: https://mattshub.com/2017/04/19/extruder-calibration
Make sure to use F30 instead of F100 though in the extrusion step.

There's also a video guide here:

Using these I nailed the extrusion, which had a pretty big impact on quality. My extruder was perfect out of the box, but the multiplier needed tweaking. However I had a constant issue with blobs only from Simplify3D. Chris' settings has fixed that, and early tests show a perfect print now from my mk3.

I suspect the post-processing script is having a big impact on the quality. Chris Warcocki must really know his stuff. It looks like it's just tweaking the acceleration settings. Whatever the magic sauce is, it's working well for me.

Edit: Saw some more changes in start up script related to extruding. My blob issue was just masked 🙁 But the settings do give me some more to work with and track down the issue.

I've been trying to follow these instructions to calibrate the E-steps on my Mk3, but have ran into a couple of problems.

Firstly, when I send the G1 E100 F30 command the extruder stepper it spins like crazy the first time. Then if I send again, it extrudes nice and slow.

Secondly, I seem to be chasing around in circles with the results. But I have a feeling things could be getting distorted by problem 1.
And I'm hesitant to try any more until I've figured what's causing that, as I imagine it's really not any good for the bondtech gears.

Do any of you have any ideas?

issue this command first G92 E0.0 then G1 E100 F100 stock extruder steps is E280.00 after calibration i ended up at E288.66 found the JCG PRUSA Profile perfect just tweaked the starting gcode wait for pinda temp.

I've just tried this now, but the extruder still spins crazy fast the first time of sending the extrusion command. 🙁

Not looking to beat a dead horse, or ask others to step on people's toes on my behalf....

But I would *KILL* for a decent Cura profile. Using modded Mk2 profiles is ok, but I feel I'm leaving a lot on the table.

Is it just utterly taboo?

I maintain an informal list of San Diego, CA 3D printing enthusiasts. PM me for details. If you include a contact email and I can add you to the informal mailing list.

Well, unfortunately I used F100 instead of F30, but that explains the click I heard. Hopefully I didn't damage anything. My e-step value was pretty much spot on. I tweaked it to 281 instead of 280. I then did the single-walled cube with extrusion multiplier of 1.0, and it was exactly the width set in the software (0.45).

Going to try Chris settings files now.

What is the difference between F30 and F100? I also used this guide and used the F100 command O_o ... you mentioned you hope you didn't "damage" something? Is this so harmful?

What coasting settings does everyone use to hid zits? I've been dabbling with a few calibration prints but it doesn't seem to get any better.

Re: Simplify3D settings for MK3

I have found the MK3 S3D settings to be good. In optimal mode the coast etc. is off.

The PRUSA settings were st 200mm/s which is just way too fast for decent prints.

Re: Simplify3D settings for MK3

I tried different profiles, always printing the 3dbenchy model.
The only profile that comes as a quality to the model on the SD of the printer is Chris's MK3 specifically Prusa MK3 Quality (PLA) .fff
I do not have the experience to improve a profile, but I think that as a excellent base.
Did any of you tryed it?

Re: Simplify3D settings for MK3

I assembled a whole bunch of S3D profiles for the MK3, plus my own version of an S3D settings manual, here:

I hope this helps!

Me too. I inserted the "wait" code for the PINDA... Man o man... what a difference this has made in my printing experience. I was ready to give up... Now I let it cool down between prints, and then slice and boom... perfect first layer 100% of the time. I wish Prusa would get some solution fixed in the next FW update. This seems to be a big issue, and it needs to be fixed. After having my MK3 for a month, and this being my first Prusa, I am finally starting to appreciate the quality of this printer. When I first got it I couldn't believe all the raving reviews I had heard.

Did this profile fix your drizzle problem on early layers? That is what I am seeing currently and I hope this resolves it. 😉

I have a bit of ooze when it starts the print after the priming line, but otherwise it's been perfectly fine (though I get a lot of stringing with MG PLA at 235c)

Just wow!! I have to say, your profile produces the best prints I have ever made with all the different profiles I have tried. I did increase the speed by 10% just to see if it worsened the prints, and it did not, but that is my only change.

I was quite surprised to see how high a temp you use for PLA, but it seems to make a huge difference for the better!

Thank you SO much.

Fantastic job.
I agree, have got the best surface finish I have ever had with your profile.
Have only tried one brand of PLA as yet, but anyone having surface finish issues needs to try this.

Re: Simplify3D settings for MK3

Hello everyone, I was doing some tests with the S3D team profiles, printing calibration cubes, I have two MK3 prusses, the ones I printed in light blue with a nozzle of 0.4 and the gray ones with nozzle of 0.6.
I think I got very good results, just turn off the wipe movement. But I think I'm seeing some diagonal lines. Can someone tell me if it's just my imagination or should I continue to adjust the profiles?

Have you tuned your extruder linearity correction? This looks exactly like the moire pattern that you'd see without the correction in place.

Hi alan,

What is the purpose of the post process code in your S3D profile?

curl -k -H "X-Api-Key: 79BD101D73D34E34BB41D72CCB0AB1E6" -F "select=false" -F "print=false" -F "file=@[output_filepath]" " http://10.0.0.74:8099/api/files/local " {STRIP "; postProcessing"}
