Signal the start of TAPS for my original Textured Sheet.

After nearly 3 years, it time to signal the end of my first textured sheet.  It started sticking too much and tonight ABS removed a good section of the textured surface.  God speed fair print surface.

I've been kinda curious as to how long those will last.

I've done quite a few ABS prints on mine, but always with a release agent, either the glue stick or Layerneer.

@jsw

I have printed some pretty tough filaments.  I go through 1-2 spools of ABS or PETG on this printer a month if not more.

I bought 10 spools of the nastiest silver ABS on ebay.  I am almost done with it.  It sticks terribly.

A while ago I was given a partial roll of Hatchbox silver ABS and it's great stuff.  If anything, it sticks too well.

I doubt if I will reorder it when it's gone, since I have several various spools of metallic PLA and that works just fine for the metallic items I've needed.

That is what I bought.  I got 10 rolls for $89.  Great deal, terrible filament.

That had to be a bad batch or something.  For that price, the seller probably knew that something was wonky.  I've done countless prints with Hatchbox ABS and it's been consistently good.  In fact Hatchbox ABS was one of my very first prints on the flexible sheet which stuck too well and ruined one side of my sheet when I got impatient and pried it off.

Prying is never a good removal method.

Prying is never a good removal method.

It is on the glass plates.  That's what I had been used to, over at the 'makerspace' and there was an assortment of tools there for the purpose.

In fact, I just ordered and received a set of pry tools to be used on the new (to me) Ultimaker.  The technique I learned is to first let it cool down, then, if needed, use a razor scraper to break one corner off of the plate, then insert the spatula and gently work the piece loose.

On that early ABS print on the smooth sheet, I first tried the rock and twist to see if it would break loose.  One side loosened but the rest would not easily come off.  I went to the kitchen and grabbed a small spatula and pried, and of course, a few patches of the coating came off with it.

Lesson learned the hard way!  I realized that if I had simply let it cool all the way down (or if needed, put it in the refrigerator) it probably would have released.

The set of 'implements of destruction' (shovels and rakes?) I ordered is here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075SLTY8B/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00

@jsw

Those will do it as will a razor blade.
