Should I give the printer a break?
Howdy all,
Been playing with my i3 MK3S+ for the last few days, and it's pretty much just been on indefinitely, even when not printing (other than a quick power off/on).
My question - is it advisable to give the printers a break, leave it plugged out for a bit, not in use, or is it okay to leave it powered on for extended periods? I sit next to it in my office while I'm working, and it stays on until I find something else to print in it. The bed and nozzle tend to idle around 20-23 degrees Celsius so I would say there's minimal risk of fire. But is it bad for the components?
New to the whole 3d printing thing so really don't know 😀

I turn mine off when not in use, two are on battery back ups and the one that Isn't I will even unplug from the wall when not in use. We have dirty power in my area with minor and sometimes not so minor surges and voltage drops. it's probably at least a good idea to power it down when not in use.

The normal state of a 3D printer is: Printing.
Of course there will be down time unless you are running a print-on-demand farm.
The printer will not take or cause harm if left powered up but as @swiss_cheese says, any time it is open to your mains supply it is vulnerable to electrical disturbances; this normally means a lightening strike on the power lines...
You might as well power off and save a few watt hours of standby power.
