Same printer, same settings = different results 🙁

Hello,

I have a very strange problem:I have 11 Prusa MK3S+. 8 I bought as a kit and the last 3 as a complete set.All printers are original, as from the factory. I have only changed the nozzle for a 0.6mm.

With the parts I make with my first printers I have almost no stringing, it all looks good (PETG from Extrudr) but with the others it is extreme. Especially I have such strange noses on them.

As I said: same printers, same slicer with 100% same settings and same filament. It is also not a heat problem. The printers are next to each other.

Can anyone explain this?

Do these printers all share the same firmware?

No. The "good" printers have 3.10.0 or 3.10.1and the "bad" ones 3.11.0

By the way, the stringing occurs much more on the X-axis than on the Y-axis.

Here again a comparison of printers with two small string towers.

I had also noticed the different FW versions.I just don't see the point in updating to a version that gives worse results (if that's what it is).

Pick one good and one bad example, swap the filament spools between the two printers and print again ... what is the result?

My reason for asking was a similar observation after updating to a newer firmware, but I couldn't compare directly and thought it might be more of a gut feeling.

Still not sure about that, but maybe it's a starting point for further testing.

I have changed the filament spools.
Result: The result looks much better with the other spool.
But: With the "bad" spool on the other printer, the result is not worse either. It is a mystery to me. 🙂

Interesting.

Have you hd a significant weather change recently?

There is obviously some moisture in the filament, this may be masking other issues.  Try drying the filament and retesting.  There may be nozzle wear or similar hidden behind the damp.

I have never actually dried PETG.The nozzle is also new, I've only had the new printer for a week.

But I will print the same parts tonight as I did last night. Then I can best compare the result.

Thanks!

Maybe try downgrading one of the printers running FW 3.11.0 to 3.10.x, leave the offending spool on the machine, and see if the results are different?

Cheers

Did you solve it in the end?

I have exactly the same problem. One MK3s that prints fine and another brand new MK3s with a serious stringing problem. Same gcode, same filament spool, same configuration on both. The only thing that changes is the firmware. The new one comes with 3.11.0-4955. The old one I don't know because it's in the middle of printing and has several days left to go. I've never updated it so it must be an older version.

I'll install the same old firmware on both as soon as I get to check which one is it, but does someone know if this got fixed on newer releases?
