Rattle Y Axis ?
I hope you can help and I’m in the right place to ask a question, this week when printing there is a rattle. Its usually is worse at the begging of the print and rattles less as the print rises. I have attached a video of the print which you can hear the noise quite easily. I thought it might be the extruder but after more analysis I think it’s the bed and y axis. If I tap the bed when the y axis is in middle of stoke I notice a rattle, also there is play up and down.
I've lubricated all the shafts as per instructions and still get the noise. I’ve only had the printer for 3 weeks built as a kit.
RE: Rattle Y Axis ?
Had a similar problem with my X-axis. I kept adding lubricant, which fixed the issue for a while.
Recently i had to disassemble the printer-head to replace one of the fans. As i took the head off of the rods i was greeted by 4-5 tiny metal beads, which had escaped from the bearings (these were the source of the noise).
I had a few 8mm polymer bearings lying around from a different project, so i substituted these for the broken metal ones. This fixed the rattling as well as it made the whole head move more quietly, almost completely silent.
So, of course, i bought some more and replaced all the LM8UUs (few more were almost worn out). Now the printer is beautifully quiet and doesn't need lube every 4-5 days.
Can't say for sure if this helps with your problem, it sure helped for me though

Thanks for the info, I ended up completely rebuilding the Y Axis and now seems to be a lot quieter but still rattles a little. Since then I've built the Bear X Axis and Extruder hasn't made a huge difference but does seem a little quieter. I'm feeling I get better prints.
On the way to rebuilding the Y Axis, I tried PLA Bearings and Plastic Retaining cups but found the bearings didn't run very smooth on the rods so I went back to the original, I guess PRUS must use U Bolts for a reason, probably less fussy on tolerance?

@nickrno77
I have the same issue and it is coming from the bearings on the Y/Bed and have a little knock when you twist the bed.
Built Pursey a few weeks ago with no issue and after 40hrs of printing....., boom the most anoying rattle.
I have tried contacting Prusa but no ansewrs yet which is very dissapointing.
Have you had any help or managed to sort out the problem?
Regards,
RE: Rattle Y Axis ?
I've replaced my LM8UU-bearings with IGUS polymers. So far I've had no luck with printed bearings (i've tried PLA and PETG) due to somewhat random tolerances. If the u-bolts are tightened just right around the igus - like the the original prusa - it runs super smooth and dead silent.
I'm sometimes worried if the printer is still running because i can barely hear it anymore...
