question on MK3S to MK4S upgrade
I've received the upgrade thru FedEX. I've started printing the MK4S parts. When I finish printing, I'll start disassembling the MK3S.
Do I have to print of the MK4S parts more than once? As thorough as Prusa is, I'd expect them to state that explicitly in their instructions, but I see nothing.
My current MK3S is the only 3d Printer I have access to. So before I dismantle it, I'd like to make sure.
Thanks. Please feel free to move this thread, if I've posted it in the wrong forum
RE: question on MK3S to MK4S upgrade
I'm doing the same upgrade as well. The simple answer to your question is no. What I've being checking is that the square nuts fit into the slots snugly and not to tight were you might snap the plastic. If you have the time and want to print a second set, go for it.
RE: question on MK3S to MK4S upgrade
Thanks. I've printed all the parts in PETG, and will start the upgrade this weekend.
I purchased the MK3S already assembled, so I don't really know what to expect installing the upgrade.
It'll be ok. After all, what's the worst that could happen? 🙂
RE: question on MK3S to MK4S upgrade
Please don't take this the wrong way but if you purchased your MK3S pre-assembled you will definitely enter a different world while you are upgrading the MK4S.
Alot can be learned when you build the printer
I can't express to you enough to precisely follow and read the manual and dubble check you didn't miss a step.
I'm rooting for you and good luck.

And make sure to read all the comments underneath each step in the online manual.
I try to give answers to the best of my ability, but I am not a 3D printing pro by any means, and anything you do you do at your own risk. BTW: I have no food for…

Good Call! It's amazing the comments do to help out.

How is your build going? Reach if needed.
RE: question on MK3S to MK4S upgrade
Wow. That's really nice of you.
I've spent yesterday tearing the MK3S down. I'll finish in a few hours.
My wife wants me to cut the grass. Sigh. 🙂
RE: question on MK3S to MK4S upgrade
Ouch!!! That would drive me BONKERS! Thats my only fear "missing parts".
I was able to get all my plastic parts printed Sunday so I'm ready to go. I should have the kit here by Friday.
RE: question on MK3S to MK4S upgrade
It's ok. It's just a small delay, due to a small mistake.
I think highly of Prusa. They'll fix this. DHL says delivery of thermistor is on Wednesday. I now have time to cut the grass! 🙂
RE: question on MK3S to MK4S upgrade
MK4S kit arrived Thursday, but my rod bushings won't be here until Monday. Short story, I started using Vesconite bushings since April 2019. Needle bearings just weren't cutting it for me. You can research Vesconite.com if you like. The MK3 I'm upgrading has these bushings install since 2019 and require no maintenance.
I have 7 printers using these bushings and the last two I've upgraded to a newer version of the bushing which are self-centering.
How did your upgrade go? Did you get the lawn cut 🙂
RE: question on MK3S to MK4S upgrade
The replacement thermistor arrived on Wednesday, just as Prusa promised. I've installed it. I'm working on the rest of the MK4S build, although I'm not in a particular rush. "Slow and steady wins the race." 🙂
As to the lawn, well,.....
I'll post as I get something interesting to say. I very much appreciate Prusa and the community (you).
RE: question on MK3S to MK4S upgrade
2018 MK3 updated to MK4S today.
RE: question on MK3S to MK4S upgrade
I wanted to thank everyone for their help. My MK4S upgrade is finished and working well.
The only two issues I came across were the missing bed thermistor (which Prusa promptly shipped), and some missing M3x12 screws (I purchased them off Amazon and all is good).
I also had a Y-carriage self test fail, which was quickly resolved by Prusa's excellent chat (Sebastian). I had set the gap between the y-carriage bearings at 45.0mm; I just eyeballed the distance. I've now set it at 46.45mm (it's as close to 46.5mm as I can get), and the self test passed.
It took me a long time doing the upgrade, as I had purchased my MK3S assembled. I had never built a 3d printer before. So I went slowly, often pausing for days as I did other things. I learned a lot about the printer.
But if I buy the Core machine I'll purchase it assembled! 🙂
