RE: Prints fail after first layer
So after a cold pull the following
failed after a couple of layers. no clicking sound - unloaded and loaded fine. Getting to the point where the printer is going to get thrown out the office once and for all.......
Cold pull showed very little

Sorry yes I am letting my frustration with the printers to bleed out a little.
No worries, I understand your frustration.
Do you have problem with all your prints or just this part?
When you unload your filament, are there any signs of "grinding" on the filament?
I have some ideas, but it's unlikely that both printers have the same issue at the same time, with the same file...
Have you checked the ptfe tube? Unscrew the nozzle and see if there is a clear path all the way down. Bad connection to the extruder motor.

@ringarn67
yea definite grinding and a ‘plug’ on end
I have had this issue printing other things recently it took about 8 attempts to print this tower

There must be something somewhere in your extruder! Or maybe too loose idler tension....
If you unload filament and unscrew your nozzle there should be a clear path all the way through your extruder.
I am afraid I have to leave this to someone with a lot more experience than I have.
Don't wanna tell you to pick the extruder apart more than necessary....

RE: Prints fail after first layer
Bed is clean. I printed it in draft but not at higher quality. No both printers seem to be having these problems on and off for a while.
Your first picture shows a filthy bed - clean it thoroughly with dish soap (Dawn/Fairy) and plenty of HOT water. Your first layer could go down a fraction - more squish.
I have tried different tensions and but the instructions are a little vague.
Your tension is off, I suspect it is too tight... Open the idler door and clean the cogs; using a stiff paintbrush is easiest.
Tighten the tension until the gears *just* grip the filament then tighten by a half turn at a time until you are getting decent prints.
the MMU turned up
Don't install the MMU until you have the printer working well or it too will fail.
What difference would the bed being clean make to a fail 3 hours in which is what I saw yesterday.
Adhesion problems usually manifest about 3 hours in...
Your current problems are not adhesion related but you will certainly have some as soon as you fix the extrusion - unlesss you clean the bed.
Cheerio,

So turned off ironing and it printed fine over night? Does ironing just not work?
RE: Prints fail after first layer
Ironing is VERY prone to clogging nozzles. You are extruding very tiny amounts of plastic over a long period. Its the equivalent of cooking the plastic in the nozzle.
Prusa resisted adding ironing for a long time. I think for this very reason as it is so hard to tune in right. From what I've tried it seems to need tuning for each model and I only over use it now on very small surfaces.
The V6 extruder is rated to work up to 40 degrees ambient. Personally I think that's on a best case scenario and that practically its more like 30 degrees for reliable operation, especially with PLA. I think part of it is also that it uses the filament to carry some of that heat away. So when you sit there and don't really extrude a lot it builds up more and more and it just cant cope after awhile.
