RE: Printer is trash !

reading this thread has made me terrified to update my firmware. first they remove usb, then the world-map of people's prusa printers without their knowledge, then dodgy firmware updates, - is prusa turning into an evil company? surely not.

As always new software/hardware versions, new complains. This applies to almost any product. It doesn't mean that the new product is better or worse, it just means that it's different.

So far I followed every firmware update. None of them were unusable, so I never had to downgrade. This is already a pretty good quality mark for me. If I compare original MK3+MMU2 to the current MK3s+MMU2s, I can see big improvements. So there is a clear upward trend in the quality.

But as usual: You don't need to sharpen a sharp knife, you might make it dull. If you have a working machine with a process flow which is working reliable for you, don't change it. Otherwise you might end up complaining about any new part/feature which either don't work for you for any reason or you just haven't found a new reliable work flow again.

I am pretty happy with the recent update.  Give it time.

RE: Printer is trash !

@charles-h13. I am looking forward to that.

@nikolai-r, I buy into that philosophy as much as possible. As a long-time software/firmware engineer, I know that we sometimes release something with our fingers crossed. This is especially true when supporting new hardware or interfaces. We do the best job we can testing, but something always slips by due to the large permutations involved.

I was spoiled by base  MK3S. After assembly and calibrations, it operated like a champ with no other adjustments. I desired the capability of the MMU2S (especially spooljoin). So when I assembled the MMU, I got my first surprise; the buffer. I had not seen discussions of it online or pictures of it on the prusa site. As an engineer I get why it is required, but was not prepared with enough table-space for the thing. Then I followed the instructions and flashed all of my firmware. Then I got my next surprise; I had to spend a week fiddling with it to get a moderately good print. I believe that the base MK3 has had enough people provide feedback and process improvement for the assembly of the kit that the documentation is excellent. I don't know the uptake on the MMU, but it suffers from assembly documentation issues. Perhaps with time it will get better. I tried to provide feedback, but keep getting a no-write privilege error.

All the best to you guys. I still believe in the Prusa products and attitude. Contrary to the original poster's title, the Prusa machines are worth the money and effort.  That doesn't keep us from having high expectations!

Heading a bit extreme don't you think? Nothing to do with you and poor assembly.?Have you tried the very helpful people in chat at Prusa.

There is always a possibility that I muffed the assembly somewhere. I make no claims of infallibility. I did struggle with the vagueness of some of the instructions.  Where does one find the support chat at Prusa? I would be happy to take advantage of that.

To the OP, I'm sure there would be many people here that would purchase your MK3s and MMU2s off you for a discounted price if you want to go back to your Ender3 as you stated.

A little advice for you, Prusa chat is your friend, and you will be pleasantly surprised with their eagerness to help you rectify your problems. That is their sole job, to make you the customer happy and satisfied with their product.

To start a thread with the title of 'Printer is trash!' on a Prusa forum without even contacting support first about your problems speaks volumes about you.

Good luck with the operation of your equipment.

That is 100% true.

The Prusa of any flavor is 300% better than an ender-3 and I own one.

RE: Printer is trash !

I did not say the Ender 3 is better , but I expected a more reliable printer for 5x more expensive then the ender 3 .

I found one of the reasons for the offset , I sliced another .stl with Prusaslicer and get evertime an offset past the first layer .

Same .stl sliced with S3D and the print was ok , so there is someting which is not reliable .

Dont misunderstand me the printer is maybe "ok" but for the price of the printer and the mmu I have expected much more and not starting to "tune/play" with the printer .

I have printed all parts of the MPCNC with my Ender without any issues and only bought the Prusa for beeing able to print colors and spool join ...

So I guess my next will be an Ultimaker to stop playing with the printer and start working.

RE: Printer is trash !

To be bluntly honest, I have found the MK3 and MK3S to be idiot proof.  Mine have printed out of the box when assembled and even in the first day after I assembled them.  I do not use offsets.  Instead, I use the live Z.

Take a day off and comeback tomorrow with a fresh look.

So far I haven't seen any photos that illustrate the "severe problems" being talked about.   So nothing to see here.
