Print quality issues
Hello,
I need some help with my Prusa MK3S+. I have printed about 200 hours on the machine and I started getting some surface finish issues.
On the image on the right side it's the printed part on the Prusa and on the left is on my Ender 3 Pro. Both parts are printed with 0.2mm layer height and printed in enclosures with ASA.
Do you have any suggestions on how I can fix it?
RE: Print quality issues
The usual suspects ...
Print out the belt tightness gauge - make sure your belts are in the right range.
Check for your pulleys and grub screws being tightened in the right order and tight.
Far out there - PID calibration examples kind of look like that too.

My money would be on belt issues too. Here’s a link to the belt tension gauge @dan-rogers mentioned:

Works great.

RE: Print quality issues
Thanks for the comments, I'm printing the tension meter at the moment. I'll report back once I have dialed everything.
RE: Print quality issues
Hi again,
I have printed that belt tension meter and all looks good to me:
X:
Y:
Also I have done a PID tune at 230 degrees C.
Checked all the bolts on the printers and well and that helped a bit, still the quality is not as I have seen from that machine:
Do you have any other ideas what can cause this?
I have checked the Bondtech gears as well and cleaned/lubricated them.
Thanks!
RE: Print quality issues
Finally I was able to figure it out. It was related to the tension of the bondtech extruder gears. I have cleaned them again and tensioned the gears a bit more that solved the issue in my case.
Thanks both for the help!
RE: Print quality issues
With that last close-up, it became clear it was an under-extrusion situation. Gears, grub screws, tensioner - yup

@tinnt
Glad it's working now. I hardly ever have to do it but some filaments may require adjustments to the idler screw

Good to know
One to watch out for
Tank you very much!
RE: Print quality issues
Hey @chad.k,
The problem was not in the belts and pullies, but in the extruder.
I was able to fix/identify it now.
Thanks!
