Price Drop

Having received my MK3 (assembled) recently, I am irritated to find out 10% price drop already. It seems I am penalized for being an early adopter. I was about to order the MMU upgrade, but should I wait a bit to avoid being a sucker?

This has been covered before. Owners of the MK3 receive a 10% discount on their next order. Log out of your we store account and view the MK3 again, it will be full price.

Re: Price Drop

It sounds like there hasn't been a price cut for the Mk3, but if you wait long enough, there's always an eventual price drop for tech. This is no different than cell phones or any other new products. If you wait long enough, the prices go down. Of course, you then don't get to actually use it for the interim period, and the next new thing is right around the corner. You're not being penalized for being an early adopter, you payed a premium to get the newest product earlier than those who waited.

If you got it recently, you're not an early adopter in the 3D printer world 🙂

I have a Kossel XL delta as my first printer. I'm so glad "bare glass" isn't a print surface I deal with any more. Returning home with every different kind of hairspray I could find wasn't fun!

I still have it, but haven't used it in ages. It has a volcano and titan on it, but honestly I just run the parts for longer on the Mk3. It'll be a good project to try and make it usable one holiday 🙂

My first printer was a Solidoodle 3... no longer have it. The Prusa MK3 is my 3rd printer (and so far, the one I'm least happy with).

Re: Price Drop

I know I am just whining here: I ordered many months ago but changed delivery schedule due to traveling conflict, and switched to the assembled version from the kit only about a month ago, blah, blah, blah.

My whining aside, I understand as the sales grow, the expense drops enabling lower prices. But I noticed the price drop was only for the assembled versions of MKs. In the case of MK3, the assembly charge was $250 (999-749) and reduced to $150 now. So the way I see it is that a big chunk of the assembly fee was a penalty for being lazy/clumsy and the penalty was reduced as it felt too harsh.

My MK3 feels extremely polished, a kind of machine intended not only for skilled makers/tinkerers. (I use a couple of 'push button and just works' printers and MK3 seems up to the challenge in a fraction of the cost.) So I wonder why Prusa chose to penalize those less abled like me.

Why do you feel penalized? Your printer still prints as well as it did the day before the 10% drop (which appears to be a sale). You were satisfied enough with it then to pay what you did. Why does somebody else getting a different price make it suddenly worth less? You had the intervening time to use it, after all. What are you going to do around Christmas time when all sorts of things you paid more for go on sale?

Don't make yourself out to be a victim. You got on board earlier. You got what you paid for, and it was worth that price at the time. You seem satisfied with what the printer does, so be happy!

Re: Price Drop

I don't think the assembled versions are overpriced. What would you charge to assemble a printer and guarantee or support any aftercare of your work?

Solidoodle 2 here... Lots of headaches but lots of wonder as well... Now I also gave it away but I'm really happy with my Mk3. I was tired of playing the game of "guess if it will stick".

It's not a price drop. This has already been explained to you. When you order an MK3 preassembled, they give a discount of 10% for the NEXT one you purchase. Anybody else buying their first preassembled MK3 will still pay the full original price. Again, you are being offered a discount as a returning customer as a bonus for buying more than one printer.
