Re: Powder Coated PEI Steel Sheet

I am also surprised and I don't understand it. 🙁

A couple of observations as an outsider:

1. It's not clear from the description whether or not you'll deliver in the Prusa form factor with notches etc.
2. The Prusa sheets seem to be printing and are cheaper, at least without shipping included.

My confidence would be higher if I could see more samples & prints.

I agree. I would liek to see more. Also, what about discount on 1-3 beds?

What would you like to see? There are good sample photos on the page. The price is already heavily discounted from MSRP after the Kickstarter is over.

No offense intended.

I would like to see a few more prints, and cleaning intructions. Maybe adding a price for 1-3 beds as a special might be nice also.

What print model would you like to see? Not sure what to pick from thingiverse to satisfy everyone.

I am surprised there are not more folks joining to buy the kick starter.

No offense, but I’d need to see a large successful run before I’d consider investing. Also, people are hesitant about funding 3D printer related Kickstarter after the reputation it has where rewards are never paid out, all of the money disappears, and the backers are left holding a wet paper bag.

I wish you all of the best but I’ll hold onto my money until I see reviews and large successful batches. I’d imagine that Prusa has more resources to their disposal vs a Kickstarter company and Prusa has been very vocal about how hard it is to do successfully.

If you’d like some supporting material on how the 3D printing community has been taken advantage on Kickstarter you can watch the following:

I have a PRUSA I3 MK3S and a Creality CR-10S Pro.

You're in a weird spot. You're trying to initiate a project aimed at people who are frustrated with Prusa for having ordered but not yet received a product by offering a product that they can pay for and hope that you will be able deliver. You're asking the Prusa purchasers to trade frustration with a company that slowly, frustratingly does seem to come through with a complete gamble. I feel that I'm near the long dark night of waiting for Prusa. Had this kickstarter come out 6 months ago, I might feel differently. For now, I've waited this long and I'm queue for a $25 sheet with free shipping from Prusa. If I simply couldn't wait anymore, it sounds like TheKing eBay seller has finally done enough experimentation on paying customers to deliver a reasonable quality that can be delivered. Finally, I'm personally having a lot of fun experimenting with printing PLA on textured vinyl.

You should have a great market for non-Prusa printers, and you might better spend your time elsewhere advertising your kickstarter than leeching off Prusa's audience here (which is a little rude TBH). I haven't seen you promoting your kickstarter on the various Reddit groups, for example. A bunch of people who bought those $200 "just as good" Ender 3s might be game for spending another $25-50 to keep saving all that money in their pursuit of "just as good" actual prints.

I have actually been promoting everywhere, including Reddit. I'm not leeching off of anything; merely came here to show what I have to offer for all types of 3D printers, seeing as people talk about theking sheet. We didn't even have an interest in making MK52 sheets; people came to us and asked if we could make them in both single and double sided coating options to expand their printing capabilities. The original idea was to bring what Prusa invented for the MK3 and apply it to all types of 3D printers.

In reality, it was supposed to launch in August, but we wanted to make sure everything was perfect instead of launching a half-baked product. We have beta testers who have been using them since August to make sure we set the bar high.

What Reddit groups? I'm on quite a few and while I don't read every post, I'd have expected to caught wind of it on at least one of 'em. I'm not surprised you're not getting a lot of traction here on the Prusa forums, but it does sound like a worthy expansion of the idea to other printers. I don't mean to sound negative and I wish you luck. It's just not super-compelling to me as a current Prusa owner (and one on the waitlist).

If it were easy, Prusa would have done it already. I believe this kickstarter is predatory, and I will not invest. I refuse to believe a mom-and-pop outfit can pull off a task that PR has not given their considerable investment into their engineering team.

Predatory? Far from it, but you're entitled to your opinion. And it's far from trivial, but clearly the theking also does it so it isn't as hard as what people make it out to be.

Edit: PM me if anyone wants to further discuss; it was not my intention to derail the thread and henceforth will not comment or reply here anymore. Apologies.

Ha! I get it. Not wanting to release a powder coated product half-baked! Funny!!!

Re: Powder Coated PEI Steel Sheet

Almost 14 months to the day after I received my printer and 17 months since I placed my order, I finally have the mythical Prusa Powder Coated sheet in hand. Quickie comparison between it and the Kinng (ebay and Amazon sheet) is that it is much nicer, Powder coating is thicker and has denser texture and is much thicker. I'll be making sample prints tonight, based on my initial impression, I'm hoping these become available for purchase before this one needs replacing.

It is very nice, but I am not sure it is worth the wait. Standard PEI sheets work well.

It’s a matter of aesthetics and it’s certainly nicer than the eBay/Amazon sheets. I personally prefer the powder coated sheet and if you’re unhappy with yours maybe we can work out a trade.

You could nor afford it. I had two and sold one on eBay - I made a killing.

One on eBay sold for $200. Opening bid 200, no other bids. But it now for 250. Mine went for less.

I am nearly giddy with the realization that textured vinyl works so well, at least for PLA. Too much fun playing with new textures now. Getting ahold of my genuine Prusa PC sheet will likely be a letdown.

Re: Powder Coated PEI Steel Sheet

When I ordered my MK3S last month I didn’t see an option for the powder coated PEI sheet. I also can not find an option to order one as a spare part. Is it even possible to order one of these, even if I don’t mind waiting for months? What am I missing?

They've been withdrawn from sale until Prusa catches up with the original orders. Anybody that was "non-optionally" switched to a smooth sheet in late 2017/early 2018 has been (reportedly) given a voucher which allows opting to continue to wait until they're ready. Prusa is working through that backlog now. They were still shipping PC sheets with new printers, but that pissed off people who'd wanted one previously (though they were compensated, but that's another topic altogether). So until Prusa catches up, the PC sheets are simply not available from Prusa. There are other alternatives of varying quality. General consensus seems to be that the PC sheets are nice for finish, but nowhere near a must-have. Smooth PEI is the way to go unless you really want that texture.

I'm in line for a PC sheet (January 2018 order) but not overly worked up about it one way or the other at this point. I'm glad I've got smooth PEI options.
