RE: powder coated PEI steel sheet - less sticky than PEI sticker build plate
Thanks for the advice. This is the procedure I usually follow. For me the first layer is correctly configured, but I red a lot of post talking to squish the first layer to have more adhesion, and l'm try to understand if I'm doing something wrong or the bed don't work as I expected ( or don't work at all)
Just to update , I lowered a the z axis more than I usually did with the other bed and more than I thought was the correct layer and now I have good adhesion , at least with petg.
Just tested PLA with the new z offset and same story , after a couple of layer the print detach itself from the bed. This time the contact base was also big enough to avoid brim. Printed at bed temperature of 70 degree celsius . Don't know what to do , surrender and use this bed only for petg ?

@stefano-p2 Yeah, that's basically where I am now. Smooth for PLA, PC for PETG. At least the transition is easier now with the latest firmware update.

Guys, try the sanding procedure. At least on one side of the sheet. It works.

The powder coated sheet is textured; how do you suggest to sand inside the divits?
And - sanding the smooth PEI is never necessary if you know how to use soap and water.
RE: powder coated PEI steel sheet - less sticky than PEI sticker build plate
You don't. you have to do it very gently, a pass through the surface is enough
my advice is for powder coated sheet, not for smooth PEI. I do the same on the smooth because I can't buy acetone.

I'll buy a 3000 or more sanding paper and try asap ...

Hi,
I did the pablosimone procedure and I can say It works. I used a 3000 grit sand paper , put it the water and gentle did around 10 cross pass. Now the PLA attach strong enough to print a base of around 3x3 cm without detachment. The bed surface don't receive any visibile damage from the sanding, obviusly I don't know if any problem will appear in the future , but in that case I'll have at least one untouched surface to work with.
I still think that the PEI sheet is sligthly better for pla ( but not for petg ) , but now I can use the same bed for PLA and PETG.
Thanks to pablosimone for the advice.

Stefano! Glad to read that it worked for you!!
RE: powder coated PEI steel sheet - less sticky than PEI sticker build plate
@pablosimone
Thank you for the idea of lightly sanding the textured sheet. Night and day difference. I had a PLA part that always curled, even with vigorous scrubbing with Dawn and alcohol. Just a little light wet sanding and it sticks like it's glued. No lifting at all! All I had was 1500 wet and dry but even with using that, the sanding marks are not visible to the naked eye.
What a difference that made.

Hi,
After few prints after the sanding , the PLA start to detach again . I'm so annoyed about this situation. Has anyone tried to use hairspray ?

Try to do it again. I have no problems since august.

I had not seen your message. Glad to help.

Note that sanding is a seldom to never operation.
Scrubbing with dish detergent every few days - as needed. When IPA wipe is not working.
Scrubbing with IPA and fresh paper towel after every print to every few prints.

I've tried everything when the bed arrived without any success, only the sanding give me a little grip with pla. I will try to scrubs with dish soap again , but it's very frustating to throw a lot of half printed object in the bin.

Prusa's not acknowledging this is a problem, and if you contact support, they'll tell you it's a consumable, even if it fails on the 1st print out of the packaging. I'm surprised they can get away with that in the EU, but I'm in the US so have no recourse. Very disappointing after waiting more than 14 months for the thing.

I ordered a TheKKIINNGG knock-off which has been exactly what I was expecting. I don't like going the clone route, but I was spending too much time trying to work around this "quality of life" feature.Prusa's not acknowledging this is a problem, and if you contact support, they'll tell you it's a consumable, even if it fails on the 1st print out of the packaging. I'm in europe but it's the same thing , if you have time to waste you can try to obtain satisfaction but it is difficult. I talked with the support but they talk always about z level , soap and all the other things , but I really think there are some lot of items that don't work fine and they don't want to admit it ( and refound the people ). Certainly this experience will count in my opinion of the brand Prusa.
I'm looking at the bed you are talking about and seems difficult to find in europe. I will look for other alternatives.

The very light sanding made a big difference and alcohol wiping worked most of the time and soap and water worked most of the time but the best, most reliable wipe I've found is water based wax and grease remover made for automotive painting. I painted a car a year ago and the irritation we have when we lose a print after a few hours is nothing to what you feel after spending months prepping a car for paint and then have a problem when you are laying down the last coat. You don't take chances on stuff that "should work". This water based wax and grease remover takes off everything and prints stick.
RE: powder coated PEI steel sheet - less sticky than PEI sticker build plate
This is the wax and grease remover. Better in a post than a link you have to click on. I have some solvent based wax and grease remover too but it doesn't work as well as the water based. Just my observations.
