Re: Powder Coated PEI Sheets: NOW SHIPPING

How much are we expecting the smooth, or PC sheets to cost individually, once they are available separately?

They're listed in the store for $25 apiece. You do need to be logged in to see them. The textured PC sheets are not currently available for order. The smooth PC sheets aren't shown anymore. I don't recall if they'll be back or not. You can order the double-side PEI stickered sheets today for $30.

Ah OK - I thought the smooth and the double sided PEI stickered plates were the same thing. So originally it was just a smooth plate, then they done away with that and now only supply doubled sided PEI plate, or Powered Coated plate?

In one of Jose's recent blog posts he said they're temporarily abandoning the glossy pei sheet because it's hard enough for the factory to get the powder coated sheets right. He said they may revisit it at a later date.

I've got 2 variants of the "golden stickered sheets, each with different grid patterns. Are newer stickered sheets darker?

I started with a similar question yesterday then saw he was referring to them as "powder coated" not stickered.... Since you posted this I'm going to follow up with my question in case he meant stickered...

I have the "golden" stickered sheet from when my unit shipped in January and have more prints on it than I can count and the side I print on is still immaculate, and the other side has never been printed on.

Are the newer stickered plates as durable?

As much as I don't like the first layer surface finish on the stickered sheet I have to say my sheet has pretty much been bomb proof, that being said I'll probably end up driving my nozzle into the PEI this weekend and f'up my sheet...

Ah, didn't catch the fact that he mentioned it was smooth PC. I was under the impression that none of those shipped before being withdrawn. I have seen what appeared to be a dark brown-ish stickered sheet.

[...] Are the newer stickered plates as durable?I've seen pics of at least one that was damaged by a print that stuck too well and required essentially chiseling the part off. It does seem like it still needs some care with printing high-temp materials.

It was high-temp (260C) 3DXTech PETG that did mine in. It's great material, but at those temps, parts really stick hard unless you know to put down some glue stick 1st. I tried to be careful, and while the PEI did tear in 2 finger-sized chunks, I was able to get them to adhere back on the bed. It's not pretty, but I use that as my experimental surface. I'm really very happy with the PEI stickered sheets. I'll likely order the textured PC sheet, but its not urgent.

I print MakerGeeks PETG at 255C on mine prepped with a Windex wipedown first. I read somewhere that PETG breaks free better at around 40C so that's when I try to pull mine off the bed and pop it off. I really like the textured sheets and played with BuildTak for a while but gave up on it after I damaged the third sheet. I tore a chunk out of #3 one popping off the first print on the newly replaced sheet and that was enough for me to throw the towel in on BuildTak.

Nope, it's PEI Sticker sheet.
They changed the color to the dark brown/black (what ever color you want to call it). they did not make smooth powder coated sheets and no plans as of right now to make smooth powder coated sheets for time being.

I bought the v3 version of an after market powder coated sheet that got delivered today. When my printer gets back from Prague on Monday (it was in for repair) I'll give it a test.

I don't want to post a link but if you search powder coated PEI on eBay it will take you to the listings.

Got the same sheet yesterday... It's not bad but texture is really coarse, maybe I'm too used to the BuildTak and PEI sheet. It grips every bit as good as the Prusa PEI sheet but not overwhelmingly good like the BuildTak. One thing for sure is that it really brings out my uneven first layers 🙁 I really do wish I could figure out how to get a consistent better first layer...

Be sure to read the reviews. I've seen very mixed comments and a lot of negatives on eBay and Reddit. It's also quite pricey.

Thanks. I havd this plate. I ordered it before I received my printer. I have a helf dozen prints on it. It works well and gets decent adhesion.

I would say that I like the textured powder coated over it for PLA. I have et to try it with other filaments.

That is the same one I bought. I will tell you there is no advantage to this one over the Prusa Powder Coated (outside of availability) and one major CON - you cannot clean it with acetone.
