Possible Filament Sensor issue
I was having an issue with Filament feeding that was causing a clicking sound when new filament is loaded. I went through the forums and some google searches for possible fixes, cleaned the bondtech gears, lubricated the printer, tried new filament, switch teh nozzle for a new one and eventually got the clicking to stop. however....now I will start a print, it will run for a short period of time and act like the filament ran out when there is plenty of filament on the roll. I checked the idler tension, cleaned the bondtech gears once more to no avail. I finally switcherd the filament sensor off and now its printing just fine.....has anyone else had this occur? Is the filament sensor on my printer just dead and need replacement? I've only had my Mk3 about 4 or 5 months...the extruder is still the stock black that the printer came with so it isn't a color of the part issue. the only thing thats really changed since this began happening is I updated the firmware to teh currentversion. anyone have any thoughts on this? the filament sensor has saved me a lot of plastic the last 4 or 5 months....id really like this feature to continue functioning....
Re: Possible Filament Sensor issue
You can dust out the filament sensor by using compressed air and spraying in in the cleaning port that Prusa left for you. Also, some filaments have been known to trigger the sensor.
I was having a bunch of false detections for a while and didn't believe that dusting it out could really resolve it. Then I saw the gnarly amount of dust that came out when I decided to give it a try. It's worth a shot.
Re: Possible Filament Sensor issue
There is also some beta firmware that is supposed to greatly improve the sensor and remove most of the false readings. I will give it a go in a day or two after my current print is done.
I am using a clear natural PLA, it is crystal clear. Very lovely, but it triggered the sensor every 30 minutes or so...had to turn it off.
Re: Possible Filament Sensor issue
I'm using the same grey Hatchbox PLA I've been using since I purchased the printer and it hasn't been an issue until now so I wouldn't think its a filament compatibility problem.
The solutions are more often than not, the most simple and overlooked. ill shoot some air into this when this print finishes and report back.
Re: Possible Filament Sensor issue
as expected... the simple solution did the trick. there was a tiny bit of debris stick in the channel with the filament sensor. compressed air didn't do the trick however. I had to actually remove the filament sensor to clear it.
