Original Prusa i3 MK3 - bloody smart!
Hi guys,
Josef announced a new generation of our 3D printer, please welcome Original Prusa i3 MK3! We've developed and integrated sensors making the printer bloody smart. Running out of the filament, shifted layers, power loss or clogged hotend is no longer an issue. MK3 senses all these problems immediately and takes action 😉

Can we expect any progress reports? Or are we only going to find out when we receive a shipping notice?

Give us an update now and they will probably have to change it a few times because of problems with suppliers. Bad batch of parts comes in and it can set back Prusa's manufacturing, shipping, and delivery dates by months. Then they will hear complaints of that. I pre-ordered one myself and would rather hear rock solid information than updates that have to be changed on a constant basis.
Give'em time and let them focus on production and other problems as much as possible. Once they get that done they can get the other problems worked out.

Personally I would love updates and a play by play of what's going on as it nears its ship date, whenever that might be.
I would love more details and specifics for questions that can be answered.
One question specifically that comes to mind, does the auxiliary port on the motherboard have the "Power Panic" pin to pass to the Pi Zero W? And is this output usable to support the power panic feature set while utilizing octoprint? Is there enough power for the pi to also run on a power cut, or will it require a UPS/backup power of its own to support that functionality? Will this require a special build of octoprint to support these extended feature sets assuming it can integrate seamlessly without extra accommodations. ?
Assuming I am understanding from what little information is avalible.
Being able to run the printer wirelessly without compromises would be such an amazing accomplishment IMO, and hope this is where they are taking it.

don't use pi zero w, but know that rpi3 is pretty greedy with power consumption and this version of power panic can't power it to shut it down correctly, store the position etc, even if it would have functionality. rpi are even not meant to power off without proper "shut down" procedure (like you shouldn't your ordinary computer), unlike smart bards like rambo, arduino, ...
don't really understand what is so much fuzz about this function. didn't know that power cuts are so big of a problem nowadays ...

I ordered a Mk3 last week.
It would be nice to know how things are going -
"hope to start shipping in November" fair enough if it takes additional time - no probs.
A regular update will certainly make me happier, even if its something like "received a large batch of bearings - were'nt up to our standards so we had to return them.

I would like something similar to the old printer que telling you expected ship timetable. I ordered mine 3 days after reveal so I'm hoping I get mine in November.

I know that with the filament sensor, the printer will stop when it runs out and tell you to reload. With the multi-material kit, can it just automatically start using another spool that you define prior to the print? Kind of like a laser printer going to the next print tray when it runs out of paper.

Hi my name is Theo!
I'm all new to Prusa printers.....
I've ordered a prusa I3 MK3 just the other day......
(Been using Ultimaker2 printers a lot before.....And still do....
But they always have some issues due to its not my personal one but it's located at a workshop .....So allot of people uses them....)
So I'm hoping for a quite fast delivery even if it's on preorder.......And I really needs it to be able to print constantly the same high quality.....
I don't know what to expect but I guess it will be a long time before someone even bother to give me a estimated date of delivery...?!

At this time Theo all anyone can say is that expected shipping is going to be in November of this year. The Prusa team is pretty good about keeping us up to date. When they know something they tell us. They are also good about shipping a superior product. However that can mean if they get in a batch of supplies not up to their standards it can delay shipping. Mr. Prusa would rather send out a better product later than send out a lesser product earlier. And I can't say I disagree with that.

I have to agree; my power has gone out perhaps three times in the last 20 years. For those with less reliable power, “Power Panic” is only going to be useful when you’re printing from the local (Printer) SDcard. It just won’t work if you use octopi to drive the printer over a serial link. Here’s why.
First, the Pi & Raspbian were not designed for rapid uncontrolled shut down, and if it happens to be in the middle of a write to its own SD card at the time power is lost, data corruption will result. Fixing that would require someone to write an interrupt handler for the GPIO power signal to shut down Octopi and Linux. And I’m pretty sure you cannot shut Linux down in the time available on capacitor power alone. A better solution would be to use a standalone Pi 2 or Pi 3 with a battery operated UPS HAT like this one: https://www.modmypi.com/raspberry-pi/power-1051/ups-boards-1051/ups-pico . These usually include software for safely powering down on battery power. Second, Octopi was not designed to know anything about power recovery. Finally, there is asynchronous buffering on both ends of the serial link (hardware, drivers, etc) between octopi and the printer, making it very difficult to determine exactly where the serial stream stopped.
Power Panic is a great solution for printing from SD. But for Octopi, not so much.

No Info on the HotEnd!! Why?
I would like to insure the MK3 printer can reach the temps necessary to print higher temp plastics. IE: Polycarbonate.
MatterHackers has one of the best guides I've seen for PC printing and recommend the following
- Hotend temp is 290C,
-What is the max hot end temp for the MK3?
- Bed temp is 135C.
-What is the max bed temp for the MK3?
- Does the PTFE tube go into the hot end of the heat break?

Standard E3D V6; Max 295 (limited by thermistor; higher temps possible if replaced with, say, PT100). And no, the PTFE tube does not go into the hot end - that would be the Lite6.
As for the bed, add an enclosure and 135 is possible.

That’s interesting. If the thermistor is replaced with a pt100, will that require a change in firmware, or can it be done through software settings? Is it a drop in replacement?

You will need to recompile the firmware yourself, but it's all there in Configuration_prusa.h; just uncomment the relevant lines.
