optical filament sensor issues
i am having a issue with my optical filament sensor. It only wants to "recognize" solid colored filament. it wont recognize the translucent colors or white filament. even now having issue with solid colors where print starts find then stops and begins beeping. Askes to unload filament then reload. apon reloading the sensor doesnt want to "see" the filament. eventually i get it to load and then the print resumes. after a few minutes it stops and this all happens again... this occurs at about 4 to 5 min intervals. i have tried using a flashlight and shining it on the sensor, taken the loading door off and cleaning out the area. any thoughts?
RE: optical filament sensor issues
Move up to a MK3S? The reason Prusa changed the sensor was because of translucent filaments.
Of course the MK3S sensor has it's own pot full of issues...
RE: optical filament sensor issues
You could look at an indirect sensor mod, where the filament runs against a bearing and the sensor looks at the other side of the bearing, not directly at the filament.

Normal people believe that if it ainât broke, donât fix it. Engineers believe that if it ainât broke, it doesnât have enough features yet.

Second the Chocki remark. The metal bearing idler is a sure fix, and reports say works fairly well.
Also, if you upgrade to the MK3S extruder, you are inviting more problems than just the filament sensor (which by the way, doesn't really fix the problem since the major issue is inside the firmware, not the hardware). Read up on the MK3S forum reports for the filament sensor failing and the extruder parts melting before you upgrade; you might decide, like me, that the upgrade isn't really worth the effort.
