Re: OctoPrint issues and tips

Thanks for replying so quickly 🙂

Do I have to add mesh leveling to the gcode somehow? I'm not sure how the gcode know to perform mesh leveling?

extruder axis does not move

Hi, I just installed octoprint, and all motors are ok except for extruder, which does not move anymore, whether using the console or octoprint. I have firmware 3.4.1-1356, Rasp Zero W, connection with expansion port, filament sensor off (tries on as well), crash detection on. Everything worked well so far. Also I did the octoprint upgrade, I'm not sure I should have.

I removed the pi and the extruder motor still does not move....

TX for the help

Re: OctoPrint issues and tips

I just found out one thing (i guess i'm not the only one...): when printing from octoprint one CAN'T pause or stop printing from printer menu, but ONLY from octoprint itself. Isn't this somewhat "dangerous"? I mean, let's say that PC is not exactly 1 m from printer, or it's turned off. Now something goes wrong...only thing i can do is press hard reset button...

Is there any solution for this?

If you are worried about "dangerous", hard reset is the way to go. Even if you COULD pause, if it's a "dangerous" situation there is probably still some cached lines of gcode. Hopefully not M666, halt and catch fire.

There are plugins for Octoprint so you can connect a button to the GPIO pins and pause it from that. Or you can use a phone/tablet when you are standing next to the printer.

Re: OctoPrint issues and tips

I usually print from SD card and from octoprint when tuning the printer. I have my phone with me to control the printer which’s many times more convenient than navigating the menu (eg set temps or move axis).

I’m now working on adding Siri shortcuts to OctoPod so you’ll soon be able to do things by talking to your phone.

Re: OctoPrint issues and tips

Sure, ususal way is with phone or PC, but it would still be nice if there would be a "pause" function in printer's menu. Interesting thing is that during octoprinting even live adjust Z isn't available...?
An example: i've had rpi3 and octoprint with 7 inch lcd. There were cases during printing when browser was slow, stuttering and unresponsive. Printing went fine though, but in such cases hitting pause was not possible on rpi. And if a man has, say, 30+ hour print then PC is not on all the time, so it's a good thing to have some sort of control near printer.
Now i found out that it's better to have only octoprint wihtout desktop on printer and another pi with raspbian for monitoring only. It seems that pi can't quite cope with both things at the same time. At the end i guess i'll end up with cheap used tablet for this purpposes - it's thinner than whole rpi-lcd package and it's even portable... 😀

Re: OctoPrint issues and tips

I'm testing Octoprint on Banana Pi Zero and it's beautiful. Well, the webcam connector seems to be different (wider).

same footprint, same size, same pin placement and order = fits MK3 EINSY board, the holder has to be modified a bit, I cut it.

The Banana Pi Zero has 4 cores and 512MB RAM, requires Wifi antenna connected and seems not to accept Pi camera but should work with USB cams.
Raspberry Pi Zero W has 1 core, 1024MB RAM, has antenna onboard and works with Pi Camera

the performance of Banana Pi is MASSIVELY improved when compared to Raspberry Pi Zero W.

just a thought, might help someone. It's worth the try, it costs from 16eur on aliexpress. I'm keeping the Banana

Hi doa, i have bpi zero too, but bpi zero cannot connect via gpio to einsy. I install gpio library for view gpio via gpio readall. Do you know help me with gpio settings ? thnx

Re: OctoPrint issues and tips

Here is a complete working image for Banana Pi M2 Zero, I just uploaded it: https://github.com/mgx0/Banana-Pi-M2Z-Octoprint

just connect the pins like on Raspberry Pi Zero W, burn the image and read the readme file to set it up. Octoprint with Banana and Prusa specific settings are already in place. Serial port is /dev/ttyS3

Re: OctoPrint issues and tips

so i just build my MK3 and tried connecting to my Pi3 which already has Octoprint up and running.

i always get the error that the serial port can not be auto detected and i have no idea why.

I tried to check on the PI which serial port the MK3 connects to via USB and all i get is over current error messages, does anyone have any idea whats going on?

Re: OctoPrint issues and tips

My Pi3 is connected through USB, setting in octoprint is /dev/tty/ACM0. Did you turn off RPi in printer settings? Setting "ON" is only if you connect through original zero header. If you connect via USB you must turn it off.

Re: OctoPrint issues and tips

I have noticed in the latest couple versions of Slic3r Prusa Edition, there is a "Send to Printer" button between "Slice Now" and "Export G-Code".
In the "Printer Settings" tab, there are "Printer Host Upload" settings, where I have selected "OctoPrint", entered my Raspberry Pi Zero IP address, and the API key I got from Octoprint' Settings->Features->API.

But it doesn't seem to work...
I have tried to browse in Slic3r, it doesn't find the server. The test button just does this:

Do I need to do something on the OctoPrint side to make this work? Install a plugin for example?
Does this work while a print is in progress or do I need to wait for it to be idle?

My Octoprint version is Version 1.3.10.

Thanks in advance for any help.

No plugin needed. It'll work when printing or idle. You need to post your logs (mostly `octoprint.log`), probably at the Octoprint support forum.

Thanks! I've asked over on the Octoprint support forum.

Hey guys! Any tips on which camera to choose, except DSLR for best quality timelapses? Checking samples on YouTuvbe and even Logitech C920 looks pretty crappy.

Re: OctoPrint issues and tips

Hey guys,

I have 2 issues with Octoprint and my MK3.

I use an Raspberry PI Zero W on the back of the Einsy board runnig Octoprint/Prusaprint 1.3.10.

My issues are:
1. From my 16GB MicroSD card only 1.7GB are accessible - of this 1.7GB I can only use ~300MB for GCODE-Files. I clicked on "expand storage" in the octoprint settings but this did not help. Any suggestions?

2. When printing larger gcode-files (>100MB) the print just stops after about 20-35h of print time. It does not give any error messages - it seems like Octoprint disconnects from the printer and the printer stops.

Any suggestions?

Re: OctoPrint issues and tips

Having Trouble with octolapse. It is always popping up an error about unable to detect G90/G91 and asks me to put it in my g code, but i cant find the default for slic3er? dont wot to change it, but explicitly set it to the default. Anyone knows if yxz is relative or absolute by default?

also i cannot control the axis with the webcam/control tab ... any hints on that?
