Re: OctoPrint issues and tips

I didn't realize there was a script to install the desktop support already on the image. After running that I can run chromium in kiosk mode. But even using the touchui plugin its a pain to control without a mouse. Chrome is using at least 10% of the cpu and if I have the webcam tab open it uses about 30%. I'll look into alternate ui's that would fit better than the default but are better that touchui.

Doing a test print now. All seems to work well.

Anyone know how to get long filenames from the sdcard in octoprint ui?

Re: OctoPrint issues and tips

I've been reading through this thread over the past couple of days, and I keep seeing reference to a Prusa Octoprint image for the Raspberry Pi. But the links that were provided are no longer working. My Mk3 has been updated to the latest release of the firmware, and my Octoprint has been updated to the latest version as well. I'm still having issues with the MK3 when using Octoprint. Sometimes when I start a print from the SD card through Octoprint the extruder retracts quite a bit. Then when it goes to print there is no filament left in the extruder to extrude, then I get the jammed filament error and I have to reset the filament. Then when it goes to resume the print, it prints really, really, slow. And sometimes it prints so slow that I just have to stop the print all together. And this slow printing thing happens most of the time when ever the print has to stop for false filament sensor errors, not all of the time, but most of the time. And speaking of filament sensor errors, I used to get them quite often when printing through Octoprint, but since latest updates that doesn't happen much any more. Except the start up issue where the extruder retracts a lot at startup of printing. I should also state that the extruder retraction happens before the bed leveling, and I've checked my start Gcodes and there are no commands to do so. This doesn't happen all of the time though, and it never happens when I'm printing directly from the SD card on the MK3 without the Raspi connected via USB. I'm using the Raspberry Pi 3, and not the Zero.

If there is a special Prusa Octoprint image I should be using, could someone share the link to it? And if anyone has any advice, I would greatly appreciate it. 😀

Thanks.

Which Pi? I am using a Pi 3 and it works great (I attach to the printer through the USB port).

I am using a raspberry pi zero W. I give him another try but the same issue. Now I will throw that thing away. Just use my digoo Cam to watch my printer.

Re: OctoPrint issues and tips

I've been using a raspberry pi3 connected via USB connection at 115000 baud using octopi which was downloaded from the octopi website running the beta firmware posted in another thread. Printing via the serial connection using LA and I've not had a single issue with print speed, quality and/or errors. (Knock on wood)

Very easy to setup using the instructions on the octopi website.

I'm in the middle of an approx 24-hour print and its moving right along. I've got a bunch of other prints which are beautiful to look at.

FWIW, i've been using only PETG for the past week since I've got a bunch of it I want to finish up.

John

PS - using the plugin Octolaspe and it's awesome!

FYI for those interested in Timelapse photography features of Octoprint, I made a snap-on adjustable camera holder which holds a raspberry pi V2 camera and can snap onto the front or back of the bed. It prints "out of the box" using the included PLA filament and all default settings for slicing and printing without any supports. And you can secure it with one of your left over zip ties 😆 . Here is a video I took using it to print a clone of itself.

(painfully slow though - maybe someone has some suggestions for better timelapse settings?)

You can download and print it from here https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2803918

I have a pie 3 that I am using only as a network cable device. This is because I simply have not succeded with geting it work as WiFi I have followed all instructions I think but still no go. Does any one have a set upp instruction for dummies. I can give my test ssid = testprusa and my test password is prusatest so please if you have a dummie instruction for me I would be glad. I can not find the PI 3 in my list of WiFi devices.

I followed this https://learn.adafruit.com/octoprint-on-m3d/octoprint-set-up but I use special characters in my WiFi password so ended up using a wired connection..

A question about Pis and Octoprints.. Once I have an SD card built for a Zero, can I just stick it in a Pi3 without config changes?

I have a Zero and Pi3 and wan't to evaluate the performance of each, so hope I can just swap the SD back and forth as I please.

FWIW I flashed the image from the https://octoprint.org/download/ website and followed their instructions at the bottom to install on my pi 3 B and it worked like a charm plugged into the USB of the printer. I also made a post a couple pages back with my complete instructions for setting it up. The image from Octoprint should work on any pi so I don't see why you cant pop it into a zero. I have both at home but I wont be able to test it for you until Im home next week.

I would really recommend getting a pi 3 B and setting it up there. Even with Pi3 my octoprint sometimes struggles to show live stream webcam while simultaneously recording HD video timelapse so I would be very disappointed with the performance of the zero.
