New version of R3 parts?
Looking at the download page right now ( https://www.prusa3d.com/prusa-i3-printable-parts/ ) it confusingly looks like there's a new version of R3 (dated yesterday, August 3rd). It's super unfortunate that the model has changed but the revision number has stayed the same. The link under the parts still leads to an announcement that now contains different parts...
rant: Published versioned artifacts should be immutable! Now discussion will break down into "what version of R3 do you have?" which is a mess from the get go. How hard would it be to make it R4 or R3.1?? /rant
I'm not really sure what to make of this. I'm thrilled that Prusa continues to refine the design. I'd much rather the opportunity to improve it a year after purchase than nothing at all (obviously if it were functionally deficient that'd be a different issue). That said, it's not a nice user experience to have changes released with no information, and it's extra not nice to have inaccurate information (announcement does not align
I don't notice any particularly large differences in the extruder body pieces. From a cursory look:
- There's one new curve on the "bottom" (flat side) of the extruder body where previously it was square
- there's a connection on the part the holds the probe so it's no longer open (not really sure how that works, it'll resist tension from adjusting the bolt holding it?)
- the dimensions are very subtly different (one more or fewer layers in at least one place)
- the notch under the motor mount is gone
The cover is very different - it doesn't have the support arm with for the nut sticking out. I think this is expected, as with the angled fan mount that arm is vestigial.
Anyone know what's going on? I only saw it because I was intending to do the upgrade now (obviously going to hold off for a bit)
Re: New version of R3 parts?
I noticed different parts too. But i kept track of some topics what helped me keep track of some changes and different file version.
What I took from it :
The first R3 release that I know of has "v2" and the word "dyson" in its name and can be found on the following places :
1. https://www.prusa3d.com/prusa-i3-printable-parts/
Direct download location : https://www.prusa3d.com/downloads/others/MK3_MK25_extruder_dyson_angled_fan_PRINT_IN_BLACK_v2.zip#_ga=2.101736193.1291402523.1533304366-1030976435.1523136057
The second and latest R3 (v3?)release that I know of is now on github (STL and STEP files) as parts in the whole MK3 package. Links to it are :
1. https://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/general-discussion-announcements-and-releases-f61/new-printed-parts-version-r3-t23017.html
2. https://github.com/prusa3d/Original-Prusa-i3/tree/MK3/Printed-Parts/stl
These where updated 3 day's ago (~2-8-2018).
I wanted to print the newest version, but I want to keep the old blower style. So I combined the arm form v2 with the v3? file. I just finished assembling it today and it all fits together ;). I uploaded it here :

Re: New version of R3 parts?
I was prompted to post because the first link you provided to the Prusa download page has been updated. The background image (as of this writing) remains the R2 extruder, but the download is the latest (missing the fan arm).

This is what I was missing - I thought the GitHub page was moderately defunct, as I was looking at the MK2 branch (which loads by default, it seems). The MK3 branch definitely contains the info I was looking for. Thanks!
I'm not sure if I'll go for the new angled fan - good call on splicing them together. Appreciate the upload!
Re: New version of R3 parts?
I figured this would happen right after i printed the R3 originals with my last black PETG... lol
Re: New version of R3 parts?
Hello,
I've printed the old version (dyson) as soon it comes out. Now all links seems to point to the new version.
Should I reprint the github version and don't use the Dyson?
In case, which parts shoould I reprint?
On Github, extruder body AND cover are updated 9days ago, so should I reprint both?
I would like to mount the parts this week-end.
Thanks, Simon
Re: New version of R3 parts?
I have both R3 versions, in my opinion changes are not so important (they refers only to mount points of fan mount and fan nozzle)
Edit:
and a bigger duct for extruder motor cables

Thank you!
I've written you in the other thread as well... I've seen you've mounted a heatsink; where taken? It could be useful, touching the stepper, it's hot!
Re: New version of R3 parts?
I presume we are to use the latest version, not the earlier versions.
Since the version numbers can't be trusted, I'll probably wait 6 months before installing any new release, in order to give it a chance to settle.
