MK3S - New printer model
What is this ?
What changes has been done since MK3?
Trust me, i'm an engineer ! PRUSA: Always do your best. What you plant now, you will harvest later
Re: MK3S - New printer model
No idea, but as my printer arrived a few days ago it's mostly irritating.
Re: MK3S - New printer model
you can get the upgrade https://shop.prusa3d.com/en/printer-upgrades/898-original-prusa-i3-mk25mk3-to-mk25smk3s-upgrade-kit.html#/48-printed_parts-factory_printed_parts , pretty much costly though and I'm not sure what is the optical sensor gonna look like
Re: MK3S - New printer model
no... is worse than the mk3.... if you upgrade de mk2.5 to mk3 to have two options... mk3s is the cheapone

Blog post is live.
Re: MK3S - New printer model
Bummer, I just missed the cutoff for the voucher. Mine shipped Jan2 this year. Oh, well. Only $20, not that big of a deal.
I'm guessing that they finally have given up on trying to use the filament sensor as feedback that the filament is moving. Should have worked in theory since the sensor is basically a laser mouse sensor, but (as anyone who has worked in experimental science knows) sometimes reality and theory don't get along. Though I wonder if the lack of any focusing elements played a part in that feature's failure. (Look at any optical mouse, there are lenses.) Too late to know since they have apparently given up on it.
Ordering for the upgrade kit opens up tomorrow (2019-02-13).

Re: MK3S - New printer model
Yeah, my own printer was only a month old from its first print when the 3S stuff started cropping up.
I mean, I get products improve... it's not a major change but I'd definitely have waited a month if I knew a "larger" part revision and design was on the way.
Guess I can't complain as I'd always planned to do the bearing mod if the existing sensor gave me any issues. So I'm mostly just interested in the revised extruder design for easier servicing. But annoyed because it can't be done without also changing the sensor - so I'd have to either buy the upgrade or wait until someone remixes the parts. $20's not a big deal, it's the fact that shipping is gonna cost more than the upgrade 😡

True that. I may opt for the $40 option with the factory printed parts. I have the filament for printing my own parts (Prusament PETG Black and Orange), but I have other things that I want to print for myself instead of for the printer. 😉
Still going a wash compared to shipping... 😆

Re: MK3S - New printer model
Pretty bummed--I just recieved my assembled mk3 and already had to disassemble it twice trying to fix poor factory assembly/calibration/component QA. I'll now have to do it again to replace the bearings and now to do the mk3s upgrades.
Complete waste of $250.
Re: MK3S - New printer model
Cheap upgrade. I wish they would list the parts.
They have added them now - awesome.

Re: MK3S - New printer model
ordered the upgrade parts but want to print the PETG-parts myself.
Any news on where to find the STL's yet?
Re: MK3S - New printer model
Printed parts are on the site:
https://www.prusa3d.com/prusa-i3-printable-parts/
Look for MK3S
Sadly no scad files are included, so opensource seems to be not really a thing anymore @Prusa.
Thanks,

Re: MK3S - New printer model
Wow. Presumptive much. Start on github for starters.

No, he's right they're not SCAD anymore. Note your link doesn't contain any of the extruder body parts, for example. They're all STEP files now.
Re: MK3S - New printer model
Well, I stand corrected. There are some scad files after all. (I did not notice the branch, and it defaults to a MK2 on my browser).
My bad!

Re: MK3S - New printer model
Am I wrong or this is a step back on the filament sensor?
This one will detect only the "presence" of the filament and not if it's actually jammed and not moving for whatever reason....
Your thoughts on this?

Why do you think that? The filament rolls the ball as it moves.. And the sensor detects the ball moving.. So you have the same functionatliy.. But rather than the senor looking at the filament (Which has many different characteristics) its "tuned" just to see the ball rotating.
This technique is not new.. Someone has already come up with this using a bearing, rather than a ball.
Does this help, or am I misunderstanding your questions
Re: MK3S - New printer model
I did not see any information posted about that the new sensor detects bearing ball movement? If you look at the picture of the new sensor setup, looks like only it detects open/close states not the movement of the filament. Using opposing magnets as a spring action is kinda sweet. Also aren't jams detected by the Trinamic drivers?
