MK3S & MMU2S issues and thoughts!
Hi,
I am following this forum for quit a long time now, time to contribute my own ideas.
First of all the Prûsa I3 MK3/s is quit an amazing 3D FDM printer!
On the other hand, looking at the MMU2/s I have some serious question marks...!
It seems to be a real challenge to setup the I3/MK3s & MMU2S in order to make really good multi coloured 3D prints.
Before I go further, this is what I tested:
- Assemble the I3 MK3/s and MMU2S according to the manuals.
- Updated it to the latest software revisions, both MK3S and the MMU2S
- Perform a software reset.
- Aligned the gears over and over AND over again!
- After every failure, cleaned the entire filament flow.
- Made sure that the filament flow is smooth, by hand!!
- Triple checked the sensors, over and over again, both the MMU2(s) "ball" sensor and the extruder IR sensor.
- Checked different filament buffers for smooth operation.
- Triple checked the tension of the idlers, both MMU2s and MK3s extruder.
- Checked the filament tips, no simple diagonal cut, but a centre double cut tip.
- Checked the retracted filament for a nice centre tip, no strings should be there in order to avoid MMU2S loading issues.
- Tried modified user mods for the MMU2s selector and pass trough PTFE tubings to load the filament smoothly into the MMU2s
- etc. etc.
Conclusions, open for discussion and feedback:
I did manage to setup my I3 MK3 & MMU2, not perfect but good enough.
I upgraded my printer to the I3 MK3s and MMU2s:
The MK3s extruder upgrade, home printed with Polycarbonate is really superb, just print Buddy and you will see the improvement!!
Opposite to my positive experiences with the MK3s upgrade is the MMU2s upgrade in my case.....
1)
I have the "feeling" , no more no less, there might be an issue in the software between the interaction between the Einsy and the MMU2s controller, related to the sensor readings! Not 100% sure.
2)
The loading of the filament into the MMU2s should be investigated, very sensitive!
Ok, this is it for the moment, please feel free to disagree!!
