Re: Many new printed parts on GitHub

Really weird.
Is it exactly 307 mm between X motor holder and X end idler parts? (The visible part of the X smooth rods)

should be, but it isn't. About 305-306 as best I can measure. I wonder if the rods are too short. If I ever tear it down again, I'll check them.

What does yours measure?

Re: Many new printed parts on GitHub

Ignore! self-inflicted user error. I found the problem. When I converted the SCAD file for the X motor end there is one extra cylinder I cut that should have remained which is the final plug of the socket. I noticed the bottom rod window wasn't lined up with the end of the socket and figured out the mistake. This gives another couple mm of play which had bad consequences. Sorry for troubling folks. Carry on.

Re: Many new printed parts on GitHub

Question for those of you that have printed and installed some or all of the R2 parts. I received my MK3 kit with all R1 parts and due to family medical issues it is still unassembled in the box. I'm going to order a spool of Prusa orange PETG so I can print these new R2 parts and since shipping to the US is expensive (shipping costs more than the filament) I thought about adding a few of these R2 parts to my cart so I can build with them from the beginning.

So my question is, what parts should I order? My thought is to order the parts that are difficult to replace or have a huge impact on print quality then just print the others once the build is complete. For example, the LCD cover changed but that's minor compared to the updated X carriage and back (which nobody seems to look forward to replacing).

Thanks for the input!

I printed new z-axis components, x-axis mount and x-axis idler using the STL files provided. I'm now getting a *lot* of vibrations / noise from z-axis movement. It looks like the threaded rod is slightly bent - I can see the top of it tracing small circles as it turns. I'm not really sure what the fix is.

Re: Many new printed parts on GitHub

Hi all,

I have just received my MK3. Can anybody tell me if there is a real improvement by exchanging those parts? It seems I do not have it. However, I have to admit as I have Cel Robox 3d printer as well that the quality of the Robox is much better than Prusa MK3. I needed just a 3 calibrations steps and it prints as a charm. With MK3 I am far away having 'perfect' prints.

Are the improvements real? Yes they are.

The Cel Robox is a 4000 bucks printer. I hope it is better than the MK3! So are you comparing apples with apples?

The MK3 firmware and hardware is continuously improved.

The pro, yes 4000 bucks the regular, smaller version is 1000 bucks. I put the pictures to compare (I know it is difficult to see, sorry for that). Left MK3 right Cel robox. 0.2mm layer, the same filament techABS. You can see that Cel has perfect layer aliment while MK3 not. I will try to tune it still or print the new parts. I am new with MK3. Nothing offensive just pure comparison.

I bought MK3 for the printed size and speed that they claimed. Size is almost perfect for me, regarding the speed I do not see almost different comparing the same printed model.

Re: Many new printed parts on GitHub

After upgrading my X and Z axis parts my prints look like the one on the right. Before? Definitely looked like the one on the left.

Ensure you download the latest firmware and Prusa Slic3r as well, huge improvement there. Also keep in mind linear advance has been disabled until they find a fix for Octoprint users, so expect bulged corners unless you recompile firmware with it turned back on.

Isn’t Cel an enclosed printer? That will do better on ABS. Try PLA for more fair initial comparison. I would be curious if quality is still better.

For R2 parts, most critical is Z motor mounts and X ends. Other changes are less crucial.

Re: Many new printed parts on GitHub

Yes, indeed it is enclosed printer. I can give a try with PLA or HDglass that I have tomorrow.

Then, I will try first to change Z motor mount and X ends. As it will take less to print. Thanks you.

For the parts that would normally be printed with ABS would it be OK to print these with HIPS instead as I don't yet have an enclosure with filter and wish to avoid the fume problems which come with it.

Re: Many new printed parts on GitHub

Ok, I have done another tests. With PLA looks better, however still CEL Robox wins. I will print now all upgrades R2. We will see if it changes something for good as everybody claims it. Pictures left MK3 (R1) right CEL Robox.

Re: Many new printed parts on GitHub

Interesting. I wonder if linear advance will help here. You look to have a bit more z wobble than I do. Have you upgraded the Z holders yet?

Re: Many new printed parts on GitHub

I got my printer a few weeks ago but for a number of reasons have not had a chance to build it. I figured in the mean time I would get the newest parts along with some Prusa PETG. The updated parts on GitHub are stamped with R2 but the spare parts I just received from the shop are stamped with B6.

Does anyone know if these B6 parts are newer, older, or just different than R2 parts?

probably older. Easy to check. Does the X motor holder have an adjustment screw? Does the X carriage have round belt lock or toothed slot?

Re: Many new printed parts on GitHub

Actually, looks like a post made slightly before my question answered my question.

https://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mk3-f30/new-printed-parts-version-r2-b6-t14551.html#p68334

Seems the R2 parts are indeed printed as B6 on the farm. So, if your parts are stamped B6, you have R2 parts.
