Hot end jams with HIPS

Here's a rather annoying problem I've been having. I'm printing something with HIPS (Real Filament white HIPS), and two times now, the hotend completely jams. The filament breaks off at the end of the hotend and continues feeding through the extruder, so the filament sensor doesn't trip.
I can insert a needle into the nozzle, but it's almost impossible to remove the broken off piece of filament from the hotend. I've tried pushing it through with a wire, without result. It requires me to disassemble the extruder so I can take out the hotend. This has happened twice now, every time when my print is at 95%

Short update: I removed the jammed filament and changed to PLA, printing without any problems.
