Heatbreak filament leak?

I’ve been printing for years. Then paused for several months. I come back to it now, but change the nozzle first. Now after a 10 hour print I suddenly have a leak at the heatbreak. Is there anyone that can please help with loosening the heatbreak off and then securing it tightly to stop any leaks. Attached photo.

Pay particular attention to the diagrams at the bottom of this page:

Also:  Did you use a genuine E3D nozzle?  There are cheap clones available that are a fraction short in the thread.

Cheerio,

Thanks for the reply, but I am looking for help to remove the heat break from the block. The plastic is baked on and might be why I cannot loosen it off.

Use heat. Heat up the heat block to the temperature of the filament and then use a brass brush to remove it.

Alternatively, use a heat gun or a soldering iron if the heater isn't working.

Take care when using a brass brush on a heated nozzle, make sure non of the bristles come in contact with the wires to the heater cartridge or the thermister.  Wooden tools can help, I use toothpicks to get into small spaces.

Wooden sticks for finger food and alike can be more convenient to use than relatively small toothpicks.

Really?  How well do they fit in that tiny space between the heat block and the heat sink?  How well to they fit in the expansion slit for the heat cartridge?  Does it give you a warm feeling in the pit of your stomach to countermand recommendations given by other people who have participated much in this forum?

So, tell me, how do you get into really tight spaces with, oh, chopsticks, or shish-ke-bob skewers, I really want to know?

RE:

No, I use them instead of a brass brush to wipe the outside of nozzle and heater block and avoid short-circuiting the heat cartridge. Sorry, If you felt offended. I did not mean it that way. Please bear with me. English is not my native language. I Just wanted to add an alternative way to your perfectly fine advice using toothpicks for the small spaces. The sticks I know are in size closer to toothpicks than chop-sticks. I did not mention the latter or did I?

Okay guys,

It was a MAJOR pain to cleanup this leak. Removed the heatsink from extruder body. Heated the nozzle to 230°. Scraped off the goo. Used qtip to cleaner inner heat break. New nozzle. And now printing back to normal.

Hate how we have no visibility to the heat break  to see if filament is oozing from the top.

I can't help you but I'll tell you my story. My heat block was leaking (after many, many successful prints) so I ordered a new one and a new nozzle. Assembled exactly as instructed and when finished I still had a leak at the heat block. I give up.............just ordered the whole assembled hotend (mk3s).
