FlashAir Alternative?
Hi all
I was just about to purchase a 32Gb FlashAir card as opposed to going raspberry pi and octoprint (I only want the files moved not to take control) and notice that Toshiba is dropping support for this in 2020. I have already had to change "wireless" kit due to vendors moving their data stores but that's because they use cloud transfer. Is the loss of support on FlashAir likely to be an issue? I dont think so but wanted to check before forking out £30+.

FWIW Octoprint is able to load files directly to printers local storage. Can I suggest that you goggle around a bit re. FlashAir, I understand the range is a little limited and I suspect error detect is minimal/non existent.

I've owned 2 FlashAir cards in recent years and can say that "support" was never stellar. If you own one and have it working, it should continue to work. If it fails, you will likely need to find a wholesale replacement. Do be sure to download and store a copy of the Toshiba configuration software tools before they disappear.
Long-term, you'll want to find a more stable replacement. I've found Octoprint is by far the best solution for my needs. You can use it strictly to transport gcode files to the printer if that's all you need. There are a few situations where it's not ideal, but overall, it works very well and doesn't cost much more than the FlashAir cards.

@bobstro
Sorry. I should have been a bit clearer. It wasn't the manufacturers support it was that it would still function. With few exceptions manf support generally hovers around it's not us its you which is one of the reasons I like this forum. I dont actually need a remote connection as there is another local PC set up for it but it's been quite nice sitting in the warm whilst I build my new enclosure. 🙄
