First layer height on support

Hi all,

When using supports with Slic3r, the first layer print above the support is twice the height of normal layer height (0.4 when printing in 0.2).

I guess they found it a good solution but I would like it to be configurable, I have better results on S3D where the height is the same than default layer height.

Moreover sometimes it would not respect your model size, if you want to make a 0.2mm thick cantilever bridge (never, I admit), it would be 0.4mm thick (see picture below).

Is there a way to set this somewhere ? Is it a potential improvement for Slic3r (I think so) ?

Thanks.

Hi Arthur,

is this layer height a factor of unconstrained nozzle diameter?

Hi Joan,

I don't understand your question. Maybe it's related to the nozzle diameter but I don't understand why this value.
In DETAIL mode (0.1mm), this height is about 0.3mm.

I would find weird that nobody noticed this before and asked for tunning, I have a really better quality with 0.2 than 0.4.

My question is just: do you know any way of setting this height ?

Thanks.

So there's no way to configure this height ?

There are plenty of settings but this height is different from your default layer height and you don't have any control on it ?

If not, it's a serious way of improvement for the slicer.

Support with Slic3R :
Even the part in the red box, in pure bridge, are bad. The strings are free, they are not bond with each other or with the upper layer, they move if you touch them.

With Simplify 3D, with a much bigger bridge, it's really nice, smooth and well bond.
