Re: Firmware 3.2.0-RC2 for Original Prusa i3 MK3

Just tried RC2. Still buggy on my MK3

• Corrupt text on screen when going thru the calibration wizard when it asks to remove the steel sheet. After that, all the text is corrupt.
• The initial bed levelling calibration after removing the steel sheet makes the nozzle drag the paper around the bed, despite never having this issue with release grade software. My nozzle offset has always been around -0.725 when building it, I used the cable tie method to get the height of the PINDA.

I performed a full factory reset after the firmware update, so something is still not right with this release of software.

The screen corruption is a common side effect of poor grounding in the MK3 electronics. When you touch the LCD, a little static charge is zapping it and causing it to lose its state. To see if this is the issue, try grounding yourself out before touching the screen.

On the crashing into the bed, I had this issue with RC1 (haven't tried RC2 yet because my Mk3 is in pieces ATM). In RC1, the fix was to lower the PINDA probe - lower than you could get it with the cable tie method. My nozzle offset ended up being around -1.0, and it past calibration and worked much better than it did previously.

I never the this issue with the screen before 3.2.9 RC1 or RC2...

I have quite a number of failed initial bed levelling calibrations with RC2. Re-running print after reset always helps, luckily. Also prints are perfect.

Same here with the failed bed leveling - was getting a lot of them. Back at 3.1.3 - no problems with bed leveling now.

I've had... what it seems a random reboot today, and once yestarday also. When i came to the printer it was at home screen still, cold and stuck with nozzle into half finished print. It's not crash detect, it's plain reboot, as it seems.
Funny...

I had similar incidents today after upgrading firmware yesterday. More hangs than reboots however. First time the print had just stopped, the heaters were still on and the message said something like "reached temperature". Second time was similar with heaters still on but message said 'Card inserted'. The firmware update & calibration had gone well and I did get several test prints that are good. Both these incidents happened early in the print, which is good on one hand, but unfortunately the hot nozzle left a permanent mark in the print surface on the first incident. Now not sure I want to run this again to avoid more bed damage.

Just updated to RC2. I had to lower the Pinda probe like most people but now I get servere E-skips 😕

Can't even load the filament, worked fine on RC1

---EDIT---

Sorry, seems to be better now, I must have had a clogged nozzle or something that just coinciding with me changing to RC2

Not sure if the current for the E-stepper was changed, but it does seem more prone to skipping

?dl=0

With Prusa gray PLA, Devel Design PLA works fine...

in the current compiled 3.2.0-RC2 firmware they lowered MK3 - extruder current to 26. 4 days ago they bumped up to 30. https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware/commit/964d019dd18d269203b9124f6f07c21ce78428c6

I don't know if this is an RC2 problem or not but last night every few minutes it would act like it ran out of filament and and I would have to reload the filament. I was printing black petg and I've never had this problem before. Turning off the filament server got around the immediate problem and it printed successfully overnight.

Black PETG has always caused the filament sensor problems for me. This is a known issue as AFAIK nothing has changed in the firmware to tackle this.
Perhaps lighting differences could make the difference?

Black PETG very rarely works with the filament sensor. The sensor sometimes is really hit or miss. I usually leave it off because I don't have time to deal with the false triggers and then have the potential to ruin or degrade the print when it triggers. I have ordered the new Multi Material upgrade V2 and found out that this upgrade relies heavily on these sensors working properly. I really hope by the time they ship they have this mess figured out with the sensor...

That is good to know, thanks for the the information. I read there were sensor problems with translucent filaments but I would have never guessed black petg was problematic. It will be interesting to see if that can be overcome with a firmware update or if a new sensor will be required.

Not quite sure if the first layer artefacts are due to the reduced extruder current or something else. Fact is that enabling linearity correction (I set it to 1.055) made a huge difference. First layer turned out to be almost perfect.
Sidenote: Since my extruder got really hot with Firmware 3.1.3 (even on small prints) , I switched to RC2. Funnily, I get a hissing sound ever since, running in normal mode.

from left to right: linearity correction enabled, disabled (z-height too low), disabled (same z-height as the one on the left)

I have doubts that linear correction will make a better first layer- but one never knows. I can say your z-height is definitely too low- and being that low it will change behavior due to just a few degrees temperature difference in the steel sheet.
