Firmware 3.1.2 FINAL for Original Prusa i3 MK3

UPDATE: there is a new final version, please visit https://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/hardware-firmware-and-software-help-f64/firmware-3-2-0-for-original-prusa-i3-mk3-t17799.html

Hi guys,
final version of firmware 3.1.2 for Original Prusa i3 MK3 is out!

What is new:

Improved rehoming
When the printer detects a crash or recovers from power loss, the system needs to rehome and sometimes rehoming wasn't accurate. After flashing the firmware, the printer will inform the user, that selftest procedure must be initialized in order to correct rehoming. The selftest procedure then runs automatically.

Belt status fixed
Printer is no longer showing incorrect belt status values.

Fixed extruder multiplier precision
We've discovered inaccurately counted E coordinate in case the extruder multiplier was set with G-code M221. This could lead to under extrusion on small layer heights (50um layer thickness).

Fan checks synchronization
While printing shapes with long linear movements at very low speeds, the system could alert you with false fan error. We fixed this issue in the current release.

Supported printers:
This firmware supports Original Prusa i3 MK3

Hi

Firmware is dated 1st March for 3.1.2 on the download page.

Is it just a case that the date is not updated but the file is correct?

Bed level correction does not work.

To reproduce:

1. print bed level test pattern
2. measure height of the nine fields
3. change bed level correction right side to - 50 um
4. print and measure again
5. see that there is no siginificant change.

Others are reporting this as well, see

Maybe related to the PINDA bug Stahlfabrik discovered?

Updated to this firmware yesterday and my (self-assembled) MK3 wouldn't pass the selfttest anymore, failed three times on X-axis length. However, I had been printing happily with good results with 3.1.1, so I flashed it back and ta-daa, all correct in selftest again... without touching anything else.

Have you changed the tolerances for what is considered a successful X-axis check? For now I'll stick with 3.1.1

/Joel

Hello,
for me i'm not having issue so far with the 3.1.2 RC1. Selftest, print through sd Card, Octopi Print work for me with my self-assembled MK3.

Looking at this fix: https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware/commit/fc3af0533a2f51cddb179531e4f57a1b1a5fd6ea

Am I right in thinking this means that in the released firmware, unless you have volumetric enabled, it will effectively ignore any extrusion multiplier?

I had exactly the same issue. Initially I thought this was a regression in the firmware. However it turned out that one of the tie rips was blocking the extruder from moving until the final end of the x axis. It was only 0.5mm or so (maybe even less), but enough to fail the selftest.

Re: Firmware 3.1.2 FINAL for Original Prusa i3 MK3

Just ran a testprint with the new Firmware and i am very happy with the Result.

Crash detection is still triggering at (what seems to me) random points with no apparant reason. But now it rehomes and continues correctly.
Works perftly with crash detection disabled

Always triggers for me on the Y axis. Possible that there is a mechanical problem that is enough to trigger crash detection but not severe enough to cause problems if Crash detection is disabled?

I don't know what you've been reading to make you think that "thats it" for firmware?! Josef recently announced in a blog post that Linear Advance will be coming back for testing in the next few weeks. Also, if you care to look at github you'll see daily activity on the source code:
https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware/commits/MK3

I've seen more work on the MK3 firmware in the last week than I ever saw on my old printers firmware in 2 years!

I'm going to assume you are not familiar with software development terms. Software revisions will go through stages. Alpha, Beta, RC (release candidate) and then final or release. This is simply the final release for version 3.1.2. Further development will come with new version numbers. I believe they have said there is a 3.1.3 RC already being tested.

Re: Firmware 3.1.2 FINAL for Original Prusa i3 MK3

still a major bug with the LIVE Z changing for each print i posted in a few other threads about it. to get more consistency i'm allowing my machine to totally cool down to room temperature and cycling the power before starting a new print as it usually keeps the live Z from moving the extruder too low and causing problems with the first layer.

Fan checks synchronization
While printing shapes with long linear movements at very low speeds, the system could alert you with false fan error. We fixed this issue in the current release.

Still not fixed. Loaded the latest firmware 3.1.3 and tried to print but still get the fan error at low speeds. I increased the speed and was able to print.

To get very good quality prints I have been using the old S3D MK2 setting, slower but very good prints.

Re: Firmware 3.1.2 FINAL for Original Prusa i3 MK3

I just updated to 3.1.2, and after the update the whole screen was garbled. I power cycled, and it fixed that issue. When I start the setup process using the wizard, the selftest check gets through the X and Y stages fine. After that, the nozzle lowers to the bed, pushes further, then starts moving back and forth. Before I could stop it, the nozzle scraped off the black coating, revealing copper.

I power cycled again, and forced the z calibration. It worked through that process without any problems. I then ran the setup wizard again, and it did the same thing. It keeps forcing the nozzle into the bed and dragging it across. Anything I'm doing wrong, or should do differently?

Same as timothy.r9. Fortunately, my nozzle didn't rub back and forth. Maybe I was just quicker in hitting the power switch?

After it happened twice, on the third power cycle I just skipped the wizard and went to first layer calibration. So far it's been working fine. I am concerned that I can't run the wizard successfully.
