RE: Firmware 3.8.0-RC1 for Original Prusa i3 MK3S & MK3

Tim:

Yes, you are correct....  I have no idea what was going on with my stuff, but after further testing and fiddling, yes I do now see what you are saying and what it is supposed to do and I got it working like you and bobstro posted....  Thank you for the help.... 😯 😯

I wish I could edit the post to  remove bad info...  I do not know what I was doing, but it was not what you all said.  I clearly was not comprehending and after futzing with it yesterday, I put it aside till i got done with work today and reread the posts and got everything ducky now.

To be clear, each sheet has its own set live z that you have to set for each sheet in the HW menu and is NOT an offset.

I  was able to flash it via Octoprint running on a RPi 3B.

Could you be prevailed upon to post a few notes on how to do this?

I have installed the firmware updater and downloaded the hex - but then we get to configuring the updater...

Start simple - like what board type we have for the MK3S. What additional software do we have to install on the Pi -

and what do we use to write the firmware. I do not think it is avrdude...

A few pointers would be much appreciated...

Thanks!

I'm on the road this week, and only have some summary notes, but here's how I got it working with Octoprint on my Mk3.
First, install avrdude on the RPi via the terminal. Login and enter:

sudo apt install -y avrdude
Next you just need to configure the plugin. In the Octoprint plugin screen, enter:

Flash method: avrdude (Atmel AVR Family)
AVR MCU: ATmega2560
Path: /usr/bin/avrdude
AVR Programmer Type: wiring

Here's a screenshot:

After that, just download the firmware (making sure to download the correct version for your printer) and point to it in the plugin interface.

That's about all there was to it. I can't test to confirm all this for a few days, but this should get you going.

Bless you!

Did it work? If I've got 2nd hand verification, I'm going to add a write-up to my notes pages.

Flash was successful. I had no idea we had a 2560 in there, like my old - not yet completed - Prusa Mendel...

Not tried printing anything yet. Mostly - I want to define my two printing sheets.

Glad to hear it. Thanks for the confirmation. I had to do quite a bit of searching to find the hints and put them together.

I didn't see it in the notes, but does 3.8 address the loud beep when powering off the printer?

I have to say, my favorite feature so far are the steel sheet profiles.

It seems to work very well, and makes it clear which sheet you are on.

Not tested yet - but I expect Live Z values will be written to the current sheet.

I've been able to test a bit, and any Live-Z adjustments appear to be stored in the currently selected profile without user action.

Magnetic heatbed on MK3S/MK2.5S enables using multiple steel sheets for continuous printing.

Is this a typo ? It suggests this is not available for MK3 ?

Texy

It works for any model with a magnetic heatbed (including MK3 and MK2.5). In the release notes, only active models ("S" line) were mentioned.
