RE: Firmware 3.8.0-FINAL for Original Prusa i3 MK3S & MK3

Did the update several days ago all went fine.  I had the powder coated build sheet on at the time and the Live Z set for it.  Per the write up I assumed that the live Z for the current sheet would automatically be written to the 1st build place location.  I then switched to the PEI build sheet and did a Z calibration and set the Z height for the PEI sheet. Since that time I have used PEI sheet option and printed several items.  I changed build plates today to the Powder coated sheet and choose the PDRCoat  Z height setting and was surprised to see that it was not correct, but rather set for the PEI sheet.  Apparently I did  something wrong, possibly needed to do a print on the powder coat to save the height setting or maybe needed to shut off the printer and restart to save it.  I have it set correctly now but as mentioned I do not print PLA on the Powder Coated sheet so it would have been nice to choose the filament type for the Z Height calibration.  Minor issue but worth noting.  Love this printer.  Over 70 hrs printed alone this week and only one fail which was my fault for trying to print without supports.

After flashing the latest (3.8.0) firmware, my printer now does not unload filament.  When I click "unload filament" the menu brings me to "preheat" list of filaments.  Is this the new normal?  I had to hand pull the filament out.  And, "yes," the filament temperature was at 210c when I clicked "unload."

Anyone else have this issue?

If you click unload filament immediately after printing completes, ( hot end still hot) it will unload without waiting for preheat.

Not sure if this is firmware related, but bed adhesion died completely after updating to this version.

Could be something else, but after months of trouble free printing, its surprising as I haven't changed any hardware

If you did the full reset and recalibration routine - otherwise the old constants stored may no longer work as expected.  But I'd expect you'd notice a difference in layer one.

@tim-m30

It turned out to be a work nozzle (surprising, as using a nozzle X.... That said I print a lot, including abrasives). It seems noisier to me but that could be just my imagination

Just had a momentary power failure after about printing 75% of a print.  The power recovery worked except that filament temp reset to 4 degrees, and I had to reset (under “Settings”) a temperature of 260 degrees (printing ASA).  Is that  normal?  And, can I expect that with any future power outages?

Just another update - had more issues even with rebuild of extruder and replaced nozzle, but updating to Slic3r 2.1.0 seems to have fixed if I reslice the models I was printing - that said, even before that, printing the bundled demo gcodes came up with close to perfect prints. I noticed that the first layer was going exceptionally fast, so think this was causing the issue....seems ok now.

Makers of CD, DVD, and BD drives frequently discharge standard firmware updates to keep their equipment good with new media.

For instance, suppose you purchase a 20-pack of void BD circles and attempt to consume a video to a couple of them, yet it doesn't work. One of the principal things the Blu-beam drive maker would most likely recommend is to refresh the firmware on the drive.

The refreshed firmware would most likely incorporate another arrangement of PC code for your drive, training it how to keep in touch with the specific brand of BD plate you're utilizing, tackling that issue.

I'm voting spam on this one.

Reported at the time, but we've had unfortunately incidents of people spending considerable cycles trying to help spambots (some are very good) out and thought I'd flag it. It is still here after all. If it were cleaned up, my reply would go with it. My post is a lighthouse keeping the unwary away from the rocks.

Thanks for continually investing in the product.

The "full release notes" here cover details on the printer itself, but there's nothing detailed about the MMU firmware changes.  Are there details available?  I'm anxious for the MMU to be less temperamental and I was hoping to find some goodies to that end.

@bruce-b5

it was that way in 3.7 also i thought. 210 isn't within spec for pla 215 is for unload. so if you are below 215 you will get that menu

215 or > you will not

Is anyone else noticing "rough" movements in normal mode in this release - fix for me is to use stealth mode for first few layers - otherwise the surface is poor on opening layers and bed adhesion awful?

Anybody know where the file to set the bed and texture can be found. The promo video names it MK3S_small.stl

Someone help me out! I have been looking for days... Can anybody tell me what "HW" in "HW Setup" means?

The rumour is Prusa won't tell the public as it is a secret?

RE: Firmware 3.8.0-FINAL for Original Prusa i3 MK3S & MK3

Please see the following 'Clips' from the Firmware release notes
------------------------------------clip1 ------------

There is a new section of the settings menu called “HW setup”, which will allow you to individually setup each sheet and some other parameters, which are described later in this release log.

To set up the individual sheet profiles, please head to the Settings -> HW setup -> Steel Sheets (Fig. 1)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

----------------------------------------Clip 2--------------------------

Nozzle diameter setup

This an initial release of this function. We need to finish the coding on the PrusaSlicer side in order to fully enable it. By default, all Original Prusa i3 printers are shipped with the 0.4mm nozzle. In case you change the nozzle, you can set the correct diameter in the printer's menu (see Settings -> HW setup -> Nozzle d.). The printer will then compare the stored value of the nozzle diameter with parametres in the G-code. If there is a mismatch, you will be informed to prevent a print failure.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I believe in this context, the HW stands for HardWare

Clip 2 suggests that there is further development planned...

Look at the following clips,
the Gcode command

M862.3 Seems intended to ensure you are using the correct printer  profile

Mk3, Mk3 with mmu2,  Mk3S, Mk3s with MMU2 and Mk2SMM all have different firmware  configurations

The Gcode command
M862.1 seems intended to ensure you are using the correct nozzle size

M115 is the familiar nag screen to remind you to update to the latest firmware  following a change in Prusa Slicer version

---------------------clip 3---------------------------------
M862.3 P "MK3S" ; printer model check
M862.1 P0.4 ; nozzle diameter check
M115 U3.8.0 ; tell printer latest fw version

-------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------------Clip4 -----------------------------

M862.3 P "MK3S" ; printer model check
M862.1 P1 ; nozzle diameter check
M115 U3.8.0 ; tell printer latest fw version

--------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------clip5--------------------------------------

M862.3 P "MK3SMMU2S" ; printer model check
M862.1 P0.4 ; nozzle diameter check
M115 U3.8.0 ; tell printer latest fw version

---------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------------Clip 6------------------------------

M862.3 P "MK2SMM" ; printer model check
M862.1 P0.6 ; nozzle diameter check
M115 U3.2.3 ; tell printer latest fw version

----------------------------------------------------------------

This is the response I got. Appears it does not exist

Hello Mark,

I think my colleagues from content didn't realize people will already be interested in the file once it’s visible in the video. Thank you for your patience.

My understanding is that it's part of the latest "Driver" bundle, which is currently only available for Windows. If a Windows user has downloaded and installed the full software bundle, perhaps they can look around for it?
