Finally building my Mk3

So I had preordered an Mk3 kit back when they were first announced. And because of the delays it ended up getting here at a super busy time (the day before we closed for the holidays) and got put in the corner. And it's still there, nearly a year later....

So, I may be able to build it soon. But I'd like to build whatever the current revision is instead of what initially came in the box. Basically I'm trying to figure out every updated bit that I might want to order before starting the build.

I know the powder coated build plates are still an issue, but obviously they're so trivial to swap that it doesn't matter.

I gather there has been a series of redesigns to the extruder parts, and I can pick up the new parts for under $20 in the shop (or for free if I buy an MMU2 which I don't think I want to wait for). Have there been changes to other parts that I should be concerned with?

Is the hotend fan still "Noctua brown" in the current versions? If they switched to something else, does the new fan have different performance? I don't really care about the color but I know that there were changes to extruder cooling and I don't know if fan changes were part of that.

Thanks!

Re: Finally building my Mk3

Hi Jason,

there are lots of things that you could 'upgrade'...

you have identified the R3 extruder and fan assembly. the black fan performs the same as the buff fan...

if you have the Spiral wrap cable management, I would suggest you upgrade to braided cable management, there is a revised heatbed clamp to better hold the braid

there is a revised Einsy box, with improved cable clamping and Raspberry Pi w01 access door

loads of revised filament holders

but I can't think of anything critical...

A linear bearing grease injection tool might help get superlube where it's most needed, others use white lithium grease and a finger to apply it!

light oil for the Z lead screws...
and you're good to go!

regards Joan,

I try to make safe suggestions,You should understand the context and ensure you are happy that they are safe before attempting to apply my suggestions, what you do, is YOUR responsibility. Location Halifax UK
