Filament stuck in extruder
Wanted to test the filament end feature. Now the rest is stuck in the extruder. It doesn't go up or down. Does anyone have an idea? Or does the extruder have to be disassembled?
RE: Filament stuck in extruder
If the problem is just because the filament sensor failed to notice the end (either you forgot to turn it on, or there is a hardware issue), what I would try to do is this:
- Pre-heat the nozzle to printing temperatures.
- With the bondtech idler door open manually push the same type (or a similar chemistry) filament down through the filament path to push down on the top of the stub end.
- Once the new filament is sufficiently down (a couple mm is probably sufficient, but I'd probably go at least 1cm) into the PTFE in the extruder, close the bondtech idler and extrude as normal.
Hopefully this helps. This idea is based on starting a new glue stick in hot glue guns. I suppose you could just feed a new filament in, but I would worry that having the break just above the PTFE tube would allow it to slip and misalign.

Sorry, I forgot to write that. That's exactly what I've been trying to do. Once with filament and also with the help of a small Torx. The filament sticks in the device.

That sucks. I'm out of ideas, but I'm not as experienced as others on this forum. I guess your issue needs to be escalated.

RE: Filament stuck in extruder
I had a similar mess that I disassembled the extruder to fix. What I found when I got in there was that what was visible from the top was actually just a tiny piece (maybe 3mm or so), but wedged so it couldn't be pushed in farther. I suspect that had I known that I probably could have reached in with sharp pointed tweezers and pulled it out. You might try that.
In my case there was a second hard jam in the heat break that I suspect was still going to require disassembly any way.
RE: Filament stuck in extruder
I've now dismantled the extruder. This video was helpful:
It's for the older MK3, but those are really just nuances. The whole action took about 30 minutes.
Now it prints again 🙂
