filament sensor issue
Filament sensor always reads 0
the filament sensor is always in a 0 state.
Worked for years
I have tried all the regular fixes
shim
wiggle
test wire continuity
verify wires correct on board and sensor
plugged all connections
Clean with air
replaced sensor
replaced wires
replaced ball
verified magnet
flag moves as it should
dark room and test IR directly (out of the printer)
Verified the einsy board delivering 5v to IR board
contacted chat (waited a very long 10 minutes (way longer))
of course as per protocol they went through everything with no new thoughts.
So I decided to ask the community.
Any NEW thoughts ideas? Please do not suggest things already listed :))
Sadly i am coming to the point either the flag is stuck in firmware to 0?
Got disconnected and rather than wait again thought it might be better to utilize the community!
Thanks!
RE: filament sensor issue
Seems that the hardware is working, I would guess software
Trying reinstalling the firmware.
also, looking in firmware upgrade notes for similar problem
RE: filament sensor issue
Looking a bit deeper I can see the voltage change at the ir sensor and since the cable/wires are good to the einsy board. I am left with the thought that the issue is likely in the einsy board not understanding the voltage change. That will require a bit more work. Then again it has been a good workhorse and it will give me another project,
RE: filament sensor issue
put on a pair of reading glasses and look at the pin connection to the einsy board. make sure it is not reversed. I really doubt that the einsy board is defective
RE: filament sensor issue
The cable at the IR sensor board and the einsy board are correct and on the lower row of pins. Did a continuity test on the cable and verified it (replaced the cable anyway.) Went through those steps with CHAT even sent them pictures so they could verify and for their records. Does not leave me a lot of options. Firmware was rest and rolled back to last working firmware level. Thanks for the input! I agree that is an important item to check as some people do make that mistake. Also since it was working and then just quit I checked all connections just in case something wiggled loose and became unseated.
RE: filament sensor issue
the printer will run without the filament sensor, just turn it off in the firmware setting. I know because I did it for a while. I find sometimes a problem becomes too intense and a just need to back off for a few weeks and return with fresh eyes.
RE: filament sensor issue
Yes I know you can turn it off but it only stays off if you have passed the the self test first. Currently you have to click twice past the wizard then turn off the sensor then print and if you reboot the same procedure each time. Thanks for the thought though.
