Extruder Motor getting too hot
Hi, I recently notice that Extruder Motor get too hot to touch after 15 mins of print and all my 2 hours+ print job with PLA are all failed.
Due to the fact that heat from motor transfer to shaft and make the PLA mushy then it could not pass through ptfe tube >>> result is clog in mid print.
I found similar problem in below post too.

But no one seem to found solution yet.
Could anyone enlighten me is there anyway to solve this problem?
Ps. I'm at Bangkok Thailand which currently is summer and room ambient temperature is around 28-30 C.

One suggestion I’ve seen is to raise your print temperature. The theory is that it is working too hard to push the filament.

I'll try that in next print.
Updated: Just change temp from 210 -> 215, not thing change much from previous print.

Stick a small heatsink on top of the motor. A small NB heatsink from an old motherboard works nicely.

But I don't have any of that available right now so I just order one via online this morning.

I bought some 40mm heatsinks on amazon for 10$ w/ thermal epoxy. also keep in mind its normal for it to run at 90+C or more

I also added heatsinks which just delays the issue for longer prints. You could try my fix for this issue here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2867249
I had the exact same issue so I reduced the spacing between the tube and bondtech gears to create a direct path.

I wonder if adding a small fan to the heatsink would solve it? I'm assuming the one you tried was passive without a fan?

You shouldn't get into the 90s.
PETG starts to get soft at 80c.
(That image was a mistake where I left extruder motor power set too high)
It was 96c when I first found it.

How has this fix worked out so far? I know it's only been a few days, but have you printed enough to see if this actually resolved your problem?
I've been printing pretty much continuously for 5 days with no signs of wear on it or any clogs/jams since. I have been printing mostly in low temp PLA with most prints being over 10 hours. My motor hovers around 55C even during such long prints and this is with passive heatsinks, no fans.

It appears this will be addressed in the next firmware update by reducing the amperage to the extruder to the same level as used for mk2.

Can we reduce the extruder motor power via GCode in the meantime? All of my eSun PLA+ (3 rolls) jams inside the gear housing at about 45 minutes. My Hatchbox PLA runs fine, but I'm about out.

I'm just gonna throw this out there, as, this fix, apparently fixed a few of my issues...
I repleaced my heatbreak.
I was having similar issues where my stepper motor was getting VERY VERY hot, and experienceing Jams, VERY consistently at certain spots in certain prints.
After replacing the Heatbreak, my extruder motor is running *MUCH* cooler, and no more jams.

The M910 command is not supported in the Prusa firmware.

You have a mechanical problem with your printer. Try to find the reason why the motor has to work so hard.
I measure the temperature regularly on my extruder motor with an external instrument, and never exceed 55°C regardless of print or print length.

Typically, the Teflon tubes have been deformed, causing the filament to not run smoothly through the tubes.
It may also be because the Bondtech wheels clamping screws are too tightened so that the wheels are no longer parallel.

Are there any guides on replacing does tubes? Im going to take some of my printer apart for maintenance might as well check this to.
