So, I uninstalled Cura 3.6.0 on Windows 10, and also manually deleted the 3.6.0 install folder.

Rebooted my machine and re-installed 3.6.0 (I choose option to not uninstall 3.5). Upon completion and running 3.6, I receive a "Configuration Error" message.

From here, I perform the following:
- I click the Rest button to reset to defaults, relaunch and Cure 3.6 loads just fine.
- I add a 3D printer (I picked Prusa i3 Mk2) to get past initial setup
- I close Cura and copy the printer definition to the appropriate folder per directions https://manual.prusa3d.com/Guide/How+to+import+profiles+to+Cura/703
- I do the same for the extruder file
- I do the same for the platform file
- I launch Cure 3.6.0, and proceed to add the Original Prusa i3 MK3 as a printer
- After printer added, I import the 4 layer height profiles per the directions
- Finally, I import the 3 material profiles

I then closed Cura, relaunch 3.6.0, and voila! Now everything is working properly. Hope this helps others who may be experiencing similar issues with 3.6.

Cura settings problem: I really appreciated the instructions on setting up Cura. The features of Cura that I like are the ability to easily rotate the object to any position, the 'lay flat' command, and the apparent efficiency.Current versions of Slic3rPE have those same capabilities.

I set up a run on the latest Slic3rPE that was 30 hours, and in Cura it was 27 hours.Were those actual print times or the slicer estimates? Cura tends to be overly-optimistic unless you've got the acceleration settings right.

So the problem I had was that Cura did not do the plate alignment before printing which is automatically done by Slic3rPE and the first pass had no adhesion. Then I tried the manual Z alignment which did not appear to work (maybe I was not using the wrong setting ?) which also did not work. Are you referring to the Live-Z calibration?

Is there some GCode I should plug into Cura to have it do the plate alignment?Assuming you mean the automatic bed leveling function, if you've installed the Prusa profiles correctly, the required commands should be inserted into the startup gcode.

I've upgraded Cura in-place over several successive versions until the release of 3.5. I had to do a complete install from scratch to get things stable. I think they changed some internal profile organization that invalidated older configurations.

I tried the Prusa Cura profile as I wanted to give Cura a try considering there are a few features I like that Slic3r PE doesn't have currently.

My prints came out looking worse with Cura than they do with Slic3r PE.

Anyone else experience this while trying Cura?

have a look at my post on page 4, cura just always looked bad, even after messing with settings, granted i was a new noob, but i still get awful prints using cura, i stick to slic3r for important things, and give cura a chance every now an then for practice and in the hops that cura will give me reason to switch. everyone touts some other overly expensive closed source slicer maintained by one guy and i cant justify that. for now its slic3r, or ....well... nothing else yet. even if i get or make another printer, its still slic3r, and manual profiles.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I think I'm going to just stick with Slic3r as the prints are far better in my experience. I either wish Cura would produce better prints or that Slic3r would incorporate some of the features from Cura lol.

I’ve been using Cura 3.4 with the MK2s using the setup guide created by Prusa. Do I need to go through the entire guide again each time Cura is updated?

Well, I was in love with Cura based upon previous experience. About 2 months ago, I bit the bullet and decided to give Slic3r a try. Well, two weeks later I uninstalled Cura permanently and have never looked back. Without going into a full review, the learning curve was tough, but I soon figured out that Slic3R actually performed significantly better on my MK3, by default printed much faster, and had extra settings/tools that were very simple to configure and take advantage of.

To anyone who is using Cura just because they always have, I would strongly advise to give Slic3R a real shot - you will not be disappointed, and like me you may say goodbye to Cura forever.

It's a little disappointing to see the recent comments about Cura's lack of print quality. I just got a MK3 and have been printing for about a week, so totally new to all this, but I just saw a video about Cura's new implementation of custom supports and support blocking and was very interested to try it out. So far I've only used Slic3r PE and been pretty happy with it. Last night I printed something small and delicate with a lot of supports though, and the process of removing the supports resulted in about 4 or 5 pieces of what should have been a single piece print. I think if I had a bit more control over where the supports go, I might have avoided the reassembly process, but it sounds like Cura might not be the way to go.
Are there any plans in motion to add custom supports to Slic3r PE?

It is possible already but check out the new alpha 3 release. It got much easier now.

well, two points

a/ are the proposed CURA settings for MK3 optimal for the MK3S ?

b/ about supports : unfortunately Slic3R PE supports does not work yet so well and generate sometimes what i call "flying supports" or not optimal one

... and customised supports with PE are a so hard job.

Did you tried the CURA "experimetal tree support" which is so powerfull ? eagerly waiting for such kind of improvement into the next Slic3R PE version.

They seem to. I just followed the guide again and got no errors. Haven't had a chance to print something yet though.

Thanks. i was half way through dissecting and modifying a cura 4 profile to make my own Mk3 profile and you have gone and done it! 😀
Task for this afternoon, set up CURA 4 for my Mk3.
