Can anyone identify this noise?
Hello all,
I have been running my Prusa I3 MK3 for a few weeks now. I have had great success. The printer was originally set up in my kitchen. Yesterday, I moved the printer to its own spot in my office (in a Lack enclosure). After the move, the printer occasionally makes a clacking sound. It has made it with every print since the move. It had not made the sound previously.
I am printing Prusa black PLA on the PLA settings with silent mode engaged. The sound occurs in both silent and normal modes. The model was sliced with Slic3r 1.39.1 Prusa Edition (.20mm FAST MK3).
Is this a problem? Can someone identify what is causing it? It seems to be coming from the print head. How do I stop the noise? It seems to be becoming more frequent. Tension on the filament doesn't seem to effect it. I have put less tension and more and the noise doesn't change.

Re: Can anyone identify this noise?
Hi Mike
If you watch your Video closely you can make out the extruder roller/s looks like its sticking then slipping back at the same time as the noise. I would check the tension on them and also check your extrusion settings or you could have a partially blocked hotend Other than that im not sure but might be a good place to check first?
Gar
ps I would print off a extruder flag for the stepper motor (from thingyverse etc..) always good to have a visual.
Re: Can anyone identify this noise?
Just grab the filament string just at the top of the extruder body when this occurs.
It jerks back? Extruder is skipping.
Print either 10 degree hotter, do a cold pull (google) or search around the forum for extruder skipping.
It it isn't jerking back, then try to feel with your fingers or hear closely where it's coming from on various parts of the printer.
Edit: i see your bondtech gear is skipping. you should be printing air right about now.
Cold pull or disassemble hotend and check for blockages.
