Re: Are you happy with your MK3?
That should not happen at all... are you sure you have the springs in there?
Yes, 100% sure. Locktite fixed the screws backing out. Unfortunately my other extrusion problems persist - like the extruder just deciding not to feed filament anymore. If I stop the print and select "Load filament" it starts spitting out filament like a champ. No other changes, no filament unloads, nothing. Just stop print, "Load filament".
Then there are the random under-extrudes in some areas. Note in the following picture this is the *same print*. One part sitting right next to the other has majorly under-extruded layers while the other is normal??? This has to be another firmware bug..
This was also an unfinished print. The part on the left wasn't finished, but the extruder stopped feeding filament like it was clogged (but it wasn't). Next time I need to check if the gear is moving or if it just stopped even trying.
Of course support is useless.. I even TOLD THEM what the first problem was and asked for their suggested solution, and they were worthless.

Re: Are you happy with your MK3?
That is bizarre. If that was a duplicate part printed at the same time you would expect them to be 100% the same even if it stopped printing halfway up.
It almost looks like maybe one of the X axis rods is bent? If you re-oriented the parts on the bed does it make a difference? Also, have you tried a different slicer just to make sure it was sliced correctly? One other thing is to make sure the belts are tightened correctly. I think 250 is the goal for X and 275 for Y, although I might be wrong about those values.
Re: Are you happy with your MK3?
Suggestive perception?, I think if you take the chance to read a few threads you'll find most people here that have issues ordered pre-built machines.
It's called analytical fact.
I do follow this forum very carefully and especially in the last couple month in more detail. My suggestive perception does not agree with your analytical fact 😀
That doesn't make me wrong, it just makes you blind, so go ahead and deny any and all complaints that people struggle with on this forum, you don't look like a snob at all. /s

Thanks for the suggestions. I went back over my extruder and gears to make sure everything was lined up correctly and discovered the extruder stepper motor had melted the extruder idler. This was printed in PETG as specified.
Note in the pictures I have heatsinks but I just put those on yesterday after I singed my fingers trying to touch the extruder motor immedately after a print. I just added a 3rd heatsink after the pictures too.
Luckily I just managed to print a pair of extruder idlers out of ABS so I'll swap that out and see if I get an improvement...

Oh wow, I knew they got hot but jeez that's a ton of warp you got there.

Rather than more heatsinks, I'd suggest adding a heatsink with a fan. I am also looking into this option.
Re: Are you happy with your MK3?
I'm Happy with the MK3, it's so far my first printer so I'm not entirely sure this is vailed, I'm treating the printer as a tinker, I end up getting the DIY kit, which alone was fun and took 2 days for me to build as I'm very careful not to miss a step.
I had it since March 5th and just last April 15 I end up doing some maintenance on it which involved replacing one rod and 2 bearings as all the rest were scratch free. from the x-axis as I found one groove on the rod but still didn't see a print affected by it, replaced all lubricant with " super lube synthetic grease with PTFE". I also applied some on the extruder removed the plastic wire wrap on the hotend assemble with a more flexible one. at this point, the printer has run for 17 days and about close to 1 km of the filament.
I still use Prusa Slic3r, I switched back to printing from sd till they release the official release of octopi 1.3.8 ( i think on the new raspberry pi) so I just use it to record time-lapse video. I'm still running 3.1.3-245 firmware on it, its right now
I'm putting it to the test running a print that would have taken 80 hrs but slowed the speed down to 35 so it has doubled to 10 days roughly. ( 40 hrs in just being cautious with the print)
the ticking of the power supply comes and goes when starting the hotend and bed when the axis is at traveling speed the power supply cage or inner parts rattle a bit but I'm soon planning to follow that IKEA lack enclosure for the printer, but I'll wait till the mmu 2.0 arrives as I'm not sure what is the height needed to have that installed.
the cons
-took a while to get the printer,
-the textured bed plate yet to be delivered
-the recommend pi 0w is underpowered for the task, it works but not smooth enough like the pi3. ( making a custom case for that when the mmu arrives
-not sure how long bearings and rods should last but I guess I'll wait to find out if more are needed to be exchanged.
the pros
-I guess lucky that the printer hasn't experienced major printing issues ( most solved by settings)
-fun to build. Still, fun to watch it print
-was affordable and I learned a ton and still am from this forum and others.
😀
Re: Are you happy with your MK3?
Not at all. I love my MK2S.... not so much for the MK3.
This machine was just not ready for release but they did anyway.... and now us customers all paid to be beta testers.

🙁 - feel the same.
Re: Are you happy with your MK3?
The whole reason I bought my MK2S last year was because it just works. I don't have to tinker to get the machine to work correctly, nor do I ever expect it to do something funky.
My MK3 on the other hand..... gets used less than my MK2S.
Lesson learned.... when buying Prusa.... wait atleast 9 months after release to purchase- unless you like having to troubleshoot ridiculous things that should have been ironed out with correct testing.

Re: Are you happy with your MK3?
I've changed my mind about the mk3 over the last month...
Firstly, the print quality simply isn't as good as my MK2S or even MK2SMM and this is a real shame. 🙁
However, its become a real workhorse for me having not had a single print fail in it's first month and it's definitely been getting a hard time. The flexible heat bed makes chiseling things off the MK42 seems archaic. And it's so quiet in stealth mode that I'm happy to have it printing in the room next to the bedroom.
BTW I haven't used any of the "features" like power-outage, skipped steps or filament run out yet. But I suppose they'll be worth it if they ever save a long print.
Re: Are you happy with your MK3?
Update on mine. Originally said it was flawless and super happy. 2 months in printing PETG about 18hrs/day and my PSU failed. Blew a few fuses then completely died. Ended up having to replace it with a meanwell one.
Re: Are you happy with your MK3?
NO.
The MK3 was not ready for release .... and now customers all paid to be beta testers.
MAJOR ISSUE printer has been in production for 6 months and many of these issues should not exist
you are unable to buy parts which is silly if the supply chain cannot keep up a secondary could be implemented (example you can not buy a standard spring steel sheet even without pei is there a spring steel shortage in CZ?) PR has everyones money up front I would think they would be overstocked
my experance support has been poor (emails not answered been 4 weeks)
firmware is still not complete (printer was released prematurly)
print quality is lacking (firmware issue?)
Fanboys will say otherwise
some printers have issues other apparantly have none which makes me think either there are quality issues or fanboys overlook the issues and just sing praises

You don't/didn't have to. You could replace it under warranty.

True but to some people waiting a month with a printer down isnt an option. If you have been paying attention to some of the fourm posts lately support has been lacking with up to several weeks response time.

LOL, I guess if your printer doesn't have any of the myriad of issues that you claim then that obviously would make those owners fanboys. That's just logic. Do you know how many printers have been shipped? Do you know how many people have issues? No?
If, for the sake of argument, 10,000 printers have been shipped and you have a 2% failure rate (which I think is quite reasonable for this type of device, even higher would be acceptable), then I'm sure you can do the math. That number is very probably quite a bit higher than the number of complaints here.
My guess is there are quality issues in some of the components (unfortunate but not surprising), but you can add to that transport issues and user caused issues as well. So, unless you have more factual info regarding the numbers, it is quite easy to disprove your claim that the printer was not ready for GA.
Re: Are you happy with your MK3?
When My Mk3 is working, I love it.
it's not working now, and because I can't sent a video showing how it's not working, support are unhelpful.
my Mk2 MMU is also not working because I can't send Prusa a video!
it appears that Prusa support has become conditional on having a video camera.
I am not happy...
which is a shame, because I have invested a lot of money in the Prusa product line!
waiting for a respnose from [email protected] as the echat has let me down.
Joan
Joan I couldn't agree more. Sometimes a video is helpful to diagnose a problem but they are using things like "send me a video" "reflash your firmware" as stall tactics in my opinion. I hate to be negative but it's the truth. Chat support is only helpful for the very simplest questions.
Cheers
Chris
Re: Are you happy with your MK3?
Pretty happy so far. I've got the mk2 (classic with no upgrades) and mk3 active.
I've had a few issues with the mk3:
1. Layer shifts on the y-axis.
2. Lose belt on the x-axis.
3. squeaking extruder.
The layer shift was resolved by me actually getting a grub screw in the y-axis motor.
The lose belt on the x-axis has been tightened a bit, but I'm still not getting that nice "note" that I'm getting on the y-axis.
I haven't found a solution for the squeaking extruder yet.
I have a bit of problems with my mk2, so - to me - it's been a good printer. I have a mk2s -> mk3 upgrade pending, and yes, I do have the mk2 -> mk2s upgrade, but haven't installed it yet. I'll probably do one big upgrade from mk2 directly to mk3 when I get the upgrade some time in a few months (it's waiting for the MMU mk3 upgrade)
Re: Are you happy with your MK3?
I can agree with a few people on this thread, that the printer seems to have been released a bit too early.
My main issues:
[*] Inconsistent extrusion
[*] Inconsistent print quality
[*] Z-calibration not working. Live Z has to be adjusted constantly
[*] Clicking noise from the PSU
On the plus side the printer is significantly quieter, and the magnetic sheets save a lot of hassle removing the finished prints.
They don't compensate for the downsides, however, and right now I am missing the quality and consistency I was getting with my MK2S...
Re: Are you happy with your MK3?
I'm one of the happiest with MK3 kit.
➡ Thanks to all the features, which comes with MK3, is the best printer at the moment in terms of cost and quality as well.
