I should also note the print head thermister is a replacement (wire broke from flexing) as is the wire to the print bed thermister (wire broke from flexing) and the display turns to garbage often necessitating a reset of the printer (happens a few times a day, but not so far during a print, well at least back when it used to print). Other that all that, it's a daisy...

LOL I would gladly take it off your hands for a respectable sum of dollaroos, but unfortunately for me I live in Australia. I'm sure you won't have too many dramas finding someone in the good' ole US of A to take that pesky troublesome machine of your hands, good luck.

You could try selling it ebay for parts.  That may get you your best $ return.  I have seen people pay almost full price for used MK3S on Ebay.  It wouldn't surprise if you could find someone to buy it for spare parts.

It is sad that you do not succeed with your MK3. Unfortunately, I do not think there is any major error on your printer, but it is probably a handling error.
The MK3 is a precision machine and must be processed accordingly. That you do not succeed with your MK3 can have a very simple cause that is easy to fix. You just have to take the time to systematically investigate what the real problem is and fix it.
If you have built your printer yourself then I think the extruder is incorrectly mounted. So do it again, and do it right.

Uh, excuse me but I'm a CNC machinist - almost 25 years now. I've rebuilt my 8 ft tall 4000lb CNC milling machine to move it a couple of times, I know how to build/rebuild machines that hold very tight tolerances day in and day out. I know a thing or two about precision machines. I'm not going to catalog all of the defects I've identified in this machine because I don't want to call anyone's baby ugly, but please don't try to tell me this is a precision machine. And don't pee on my leg and tell me it's just rain.

You can definitely find a local buyer.  Good luck with the new printer.  I own 3 brands and will tell you done is plug and print.  That all take regular maintenance.

I understand, this is my third printer with my 4th on the way and I know the tech is young, this one has just been spectacularly bad. Ultimately I think the Bontech gears just wore out way too soon. I have them in an industrial ultrasonic cleaner now and if my theory holds I'm guessing I may get it feeding again at least for a short while. And the next printer arrives next week so I'm happy to put this thing in the past.

The ultrasonic clean made a world of difference. It isn't back to extruding as well as it did new, but I haven't been able to do a successful first layer cal in a week and I just did 3 good ones in a row. So I expect the Bontech gears are worn out and I just got a little more life out of them by cleaning any residue out of the nooks.

No, I had no particular trouble assembling it. It ran just fine and I got some really nice prints out of it until it starting breaking down within the first 6 weeks or so of use (setting aside the filament sensor defect and occasional layer shift which were early but minor problems).

The thermister wires broke simply because they are very fine and were bound to fail from metal fatigue with the constant flexing during prints. The extruder ran great till it wore out and stopped feeding reliably. There's nothing about the machine I fail to understand, when you do CNC machining for 25 years you learn all about servos, steppers, drive amplifiers, linear motion components and the whole 9 yards.

I have a nice floor standing delta printer I designed and CNC'd on my milling machine out of 80/20 aluminum extrusion and top & base plates as big as I could process on my 10x50 vertical milling machine. I just thought I could avoid scratch building a Cartesian machine for the times I needed to print a part for the delta  machine or needed print flex filament, and this turned out to be a lemon. What I hoped would be a time saver turned into a nightmare of wasted time.

I more than understand.  3D printers are very useful for a lot of things but they are not high precision ( or what I would even consider standard machining precision).  Where I might be suspicious is an intermittent in the cabling.  I can easily see that there could be problems resulting from improper strain relief of the cabling.  Our first 3D printer was an early Makerbot that we ended up replacing the cable harnesses and adding appropriate service loops and strain relief.  We are improving the strain relief of the cable/wiring for the MK3S unit we have.

It looks like Colorado Springs has a fair number of PRUSA users.  You might also consider donating it to one of the schools in the area.  I am sure they would appreciate it.

And I too had a Makerbot from back in 2011, wow that thing was a mess.

I apologize if I have "trampled you on your toes", that was not my intention. English is not my native language, so what I write can sound a little edgy at times.
By precision machine I meant that the MK3 can not be compared to a regular toy kit where it does not matter if something becomes a little oblique and skewed.
I myself have a rebuilt MK3 (Bear upgrade + self-constructed extruder) that has worked great for two years now. Prusa's upgrade to MK3S does not appear to have made the printer better and more reliable. The old filament sensor works at least as well as the new one, and I would probably say that the old extruder worked better with better cooling.

So once again I apologize for my clumsy language.

I can see this as a good idea.  I own 3.  One of which I purchase from someone for half price.  The owner claimed he could never get it to print.  I put $100 and about 3 days of labor to get it working.  IT sounds like you have already done that so let some kids get an education and write it off.
