6 Month Review

It's been about 6 months now and I am absolutely loving this printer! I'm fairly new to the scene, although I have used printers in the past for work, but they were no where near as good as this.

  • I have had the odd random crash detections, but the printer re-homed and carried on.

  • I also accidentally turned the power off, but still the printer recovered.

  • Some time ago I had an issue with the first layer not sticking, but easily fixed with the first layer calibration and a wipe of the bed with Isopropanol.

  • I had a piece of filament get stuck in the feed, but this was my fault as I was too impatient to wait for it to beep to tell me to take it out. I had to strip most of the hot end apart just to take out a tiny ball! Needless to say I now wait for it to tell me when to remove the filament!

  • Recently it has reported a couple of filament run outs on the last few prints, but the filament is still there. It's just a case of following the instructions and reload the filament.

  • It can get quite loud and I think it's the Y axis. It's ok if it's printing a border, but during the infills the Y sounds crazy.
  • It's nice to know the features are there and working though as I like to be careful and not waste filament just to test.
Of course I've had a few failed prints, be it my fault or one of the issues above.

It seems fairly reliable and I feel I can leave it running during the day or night without returning to a mess of plastic.
I use Slic3r Prusa Edition, and once I got my head around how it worked, I like the software, it's fairly easy to use and the settings are specific to the MK3 I'm using.
I haven't upgraded the firmware yet, partly because I haven't got much time due to work and home life and I've seen some others having issues. I'm thinking, I haven't had that many problems so I'm happy to stick with the current version for now.

There is one feature which I think would be useful - Preheating at the end of a print, and I've posted about it here if you'd like to follow.

I'm looking forward to the powder coated PEI sheet and the MMU2.0 and more features being added.
