Z Calibration fails after PEI replacement

Hello everyone,

After successfully finished printing I decided to use my new powder coated PEI sheet so I replaced my smooth sheet with the new one. Since they have slightly different thickness I decided to run calibration wizard. It self tested the printer OK, then Auto home OK and moved to the XYZ calibration that I had to interrupt because nozzle touched heatbed. So I lowered PINDA just 1/2 rotation and restarted XYZ calibration. Now system is telling me: "Calibration failed, check axes". I started self check again and haven't found any errors but XYZ calibration fails. So I moved PINDA up a little. XYZ calibration doesn't report an error but the nozzle is touching heatbed. Now I am puzzled because mechanically nothing changed but I can't get it back to working condition.

Any advise is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Printer: Original MK3S

Firmware V.3.8.1

On your level firmware, don't forget the printer keeps track of the Z setting by type of plate.

When you put the smooth sheet on, select "Smooth" as the plate type.

When you put the textured plate on, select "Textured" as the plate type.

When you adjust Z after that, the Z value is saved for that plate type.

And once you have the PINDA set correctly (about 1 MM higher than nozzle) don't ever change it.

You shouldn't need to lower the PINDA just to switch sheets. Odd that the nozzle touches with the PINDA lowered. Perhaps go through the assembly guide for setting up the PINDA?

@robert-rmm200

First of all thank you for responses everyone.

Now back to the topic: well it's good to know (but a little late) that PINDA doesn't require adjustments and there are separate settings for different sheets but I have done a mistake and had to fix it somehow.
Looks like because Wizard didn't finish it didn't erase printer settings. So I placed PINDA back to it's original position and re adjusted Live Z during first layer print.

The printer is functional now but I am still not sure why it wouldn't calibrate.

Even though calibration wasn't completed, I am not going to experiment so please consider this topic closed.
