X axis calibration

I've finished assembling my MK3s but I can't get it to pass the x-axis step with the setup wizard.  I've check the belt tension and it's 256.  It is stopping and throwing the "x-axis length error message when it get's to the left hand stop.  I've check the zip ties and the cable and just can't get it to pass the test.  How does the software determine if it's reached the right and left hand "stops".  There don't seem to be any physical hard stops to define the length of the x-axis so the carriage runs up against the frame with the cable bundle coming out of the back.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

RE: X axis calibration

the Mk3 Prusa's use Stall Detect to sense when the X and Y axis platforms collide with the ends of travel, then the printer sets virtual endstop positions just slightly short of the end of travel.
the printer knows how long the available travel should be, if the available travel is shorter than the expected travel, an error message is reported.

unfortunately if there is an unexpected restriction due to friction, or collision, then the endstop position can be erroneous. leading to reduced travel. and false virtual endstops.

RE: X axis calibration

I’ve had problems with the X-axis calibration before. I traced the cause to the cable which, when the print head moved all the way to the right, started to pull the head back. I found that with power off and manually moving the head as far as possible to the right, the head would move back a centimeter or so. Loosening the cable a bit made enough difference for it to pass the test, but I’ve considered removing the outermost tie wrap that holds the cable(s) in place on the print head.

Perhaps worth checking if you have a similar problem…

FYI the test in the software it’s not the belt tension it refers to the length of the belt many people get that confused as I did, I stop using it after correcting the wiring harness on the back of the extruder. It was not letting assembly move freely. I printer the file link below to set  my belts tension, on mine I set it to the minimum hope this helps you. Then ran the belt test again just to see what it was, it wasn’t even close to what they said it should be. But my prints come out really good without any tweaks.
