Stringing on underside of unsupported model

Newbie here,
I am not sure how to describe this. The underside seems to be stringy on this print....(see pictures).

Yep, that'll happen. The bottom of unsupported overhangs can get sloppy because there's no plastic underneath to hold the line of material in place.

A few things you can do to improve this:

  • Use support. Slic3r isn't all that great at support, so you may want to try Cura if you don't get the results you want.

  • Print the model in a different orientation so there's less overhang. Or, you can cut the model into pieces to eliminate the overhang and glue it together.

  • Print with thinner layers.

    Thanks Peter,
I will try those things and see if they come out better. I have heard about Cura but have not used it yet...

Cura does things a little differently than Slic3r. Not better or worse, just differently, and it takes some getting used to. But it's good to have extra tools in your toolbelt because no slicer does everything best. Consider learning Cura an investment in getting the most from your printer.
