Strange edge pattern on 25mm XYZ cube

Hi All,

Been printing on my new MK3S for a few days and really trying to fine tune and identify issues.

Anyone have any thoughts on the below? The corners stick out on the right side but only in the layers above and below the Y - not an issue in the layers that make up the Y.

In addition to this funky corner, the layers on the flat sides above and below each letter have a different look to them. So even in the sides without a letter, I can see differences in the top and bottom 5mm from the center 15mm.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Those are seams.  Layer variation is due to nozzle movement direction, and probably some differences in nozzle velocity and acceleration.

What should I look at adjusting/fixing to resolve this? Sorry, I am totally new!

They'll be present on any print, but you can reduce the effects by:

  1. Calibrate your extrusion multiplier for each filament. If you're pushing too much plastic, it can cause bulges and make the seam worse. This procedure lets you fine-tune the extrusion multiplier.
  2. Calibrate your Linear Advance setting for each filament. Linear Advance evens the flow as the nozzle speeds up and slows down for corners. This can help with reducing the bulge effect if the z-seam is in a corner. MattsHub has an article and helpful gcode.
  3. Slow down for external perimeters. I use 25mm/s for external perimeters when I care about finish.
  4. Add a 3rd external perimeter. A thicker wall helps hide imperfections.

The 1st 2 are a bit overwhelming, but aren't really hard to do. Definitely put them on your list of things to check out in the future.
