Self Test Y Axis Length Error

Just ran my first self test after assembling my Mk3. Everything goes smoothly until I get to the y-axis length test. When I move it manually it seems to go all the way forward and all the way back with no issues, it's not hitting any cables or cables ties. I've uploaded two videos (one from the front and one from the back) so you can see what's going on. I've looked at some other y-axis length videos and I don't seem to have any of the same issues.

Things I've done with no success:

- Loosen y-axis belt by slightly loosening screws on front attachment point
- Cut zip tie that holds textile wrap from bed to Einsy (thought it might be catching)

Any help/advice would be much appreciated!

Thank you,

J

My plan is to remove and reinstall the entire y axis mechanism but wanted to see if anybody had suggestions before I embark on that.

Hi Jeremy,
that looks ok.
can you check that the linear bearings on the left hand side are bumping the smooth rod support blocks at the ends of the travel?

Hi Joan

Yes, bearings on the left side go all the way to the smooth rod support blocks on the front and the back.

P.S. Thanks for your response! I've seen your replies on several other posts and it seems like you are able to help sort everything out quickly 🙂

I've tried a few more things with no success and figured I would let you know.

First, I took the heating bed off and loosened the u-bolts that hold the bearings. Thought maybe there was too much pressure on them.

Second, removed the belt and tried to the run the self test again (saw that in another video in should pass or show a different error) - I got the same y axis length error

Reattached the belt, this time a little looser - ran the test and got clipping because it was too loose so it failed

Reattached the belt again, tighter, and got the same y axis length error

I'm in the process of updating the firmware to see if that helps

I'm at a loss at this point and would really just like to start printing ;(

Re: Self Test Y Axis Length Error

Hi Jeremy,

I hope the new firmware works for you.

update us when it's sorted...

if allelse fails, do a factory reset, delete all data and try calibrating again,

Jeremy,

Did you ever find a solution to this problem? I just finished my first build and am going through the same thing with my y axis.

Are both your y-carriage bearings on the dual bearing side (left) positioned correctly in their beds? They should be centered fore/aft. Having them too far forward or back in their beds alters y-axis travel length.

Are zip tie heads of the y-rod mounts blocking the carriage? They zip tie heads should be positioned off to the side, never up.

@jeremy-b11

I know this is much later but what resolved your y axis issue?
